Joseph Muscat: "Labour policies will be controversial". So what's new?
Muscat left Dik and Dawk at the Hotel Ta’ Cenc and rolled forth in the family Alfa to promise “possibly controversial” policies for creating jobs in Gozo.
Smart move, that. What he should be doing is promising, crossing his heart and hoping to die, kissing the cross and taking an oath, that Labour’s policies will, for the first time in living memory, NOT be controversial because we have had more than enough of Labour and its exhausting inability to do things without dragging us through the bushes.
I love it. He won’t tell us what his policies are just in case somebody steals them, but he will us that they could well be controversial. Let me guess. Gozo is going to be the new Switzerland in the Mediterranean, and Justyne Caruana is going to play Heidi.

My thoughts exactly. And my other thought was, is there such a thing as a wicc ta’ baxx?
Yes. Actually there are two above.
At least Jason Micallef is specific.
At least Jason Micallef stuck to his creed of Bidu Gdid.
I think that in an effort to increase tourism to conservative Gozo. Joseph is going to declare that Mgarr ix-Xieni will be reserved for nudist bathing.
Or teddy-bears’ picnics, so that Dik and Dawk can go wild.
Learn how to spell Xini not Xieni.
Kemmuna, thanks for the correction though it did not change the gist of the thought.
Will “controversial policies” mean plenty of “controversial building and development permits” shot down by MEPA over recent years ?
How about a golf course on Gozo as the owner of Hotel Te’ Cenc has said many times on talk shows on TV that he wants one? He had a development plan ready for this enterprise.
Another controversial policy from timesofmalta.com :
“Paul Micallef
Yesterday, 17:04
To all get all your money out. And fffffffffff the banks and the goverment they do not care about the little guy.”
I answered calling his suggestion “inane” and “stupid”, which is par for the course, but the moderator shot it down
I once sent an email to timesofmalta.com asking about rules of engagement for posting but, guess what, no reply.
Izra u Rabbi, Bahhar u Sewwi, Pijunieri Ta’ Ghawdex
Better still, he’s going to requisiton Ta’ Cenc and develop it into social housing, and the hotel building itself will become a telephone hacking centre supervised by Jason Micallef.
For CONTROVERSIAL read DISCRIMINATORY and like his predecessor expect a scheme so full of holes it will be unworkable – remember CET anyone?
Pretty obvious that he will be ‘buying’ votes from the Gozitans as he is doing with all sectors of our community.
Look out for reduction in VAT (for those Gozitans who pay it) to attract investment to Gozo and reductions in income tax rates for companies that operate there.
Try asking the Gozitan Chamber of Commerce for their views on the solutions for Gozo (ergo – their pockets).
Their revolutionary employment strategy for Gozo will be a few more thousands on the government payroll doing f a.
This is what they have always done.
This is what they will always do.
The controversy will arise because the list of unemployed on the sister island will be marked with red and blue crosses.
I think I know which colour cross will get you a jobb mal-gvern.
How about giving Gozo independence?
They always seem to be demanding something or other.
How about giving them everything, and let them have the whole lot?
We should give it a thought.
An MLP government should pass legislation so that the non-payment of VAT by Gozitans is institutionalised.
I don’t think he means for Justyne to play Heidi, he very much wants to eliminate Refalo in that district. But against what they thought some months ago, Refalo is going to contest yet again.
Before going any further, will Joseph please explain what he means by “PL’s willingness to take “controversial decisions” in order to generate “work in Gozo, for Gozitans”?
Does this mean that he, as PM, will put pressure on MEPA to approve controversial projects and suppress NGOs’ opinions and public input? Do we expect that anything the LP ‘plans’ to do will be controversial?
He’s keeping his polices under wrap in fear that somebody might steal them.
Sabrina should have done the same with their hot emails.
