I have said until now that Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando needs to be taken quietly aside and advised to go on some monastery retreat for a bit of quiet time and profound reflection.
But I don’t know why I thought that would work despite all the evidence that he has long since passed beyond that stage.
There are clearly very serious problems that have warped his thinking to the extent that he no longer knows, if he ever did, what kind of behaviour is appropriate to 1. a man of his age, 2. a member of parliament, 3. somebody who behaved utterly dishonourably and was given one chance after another to redeem himself, and 4. the chairman of the Malta Council of Science and Technology, an official national body which represents the country in international forums.
We have become accustomed to dreadful behaviour from our MPs, and just think to ourselves that next time we won’t vote for them. But when the chairman of the Malta Council of Science and Technology – and this is how Jeffrey identifies himself, and did so even in court when testifying – posts links on his Faceball wall to the vulgar, slanderous, anonymous stories on the Labour website tasteyourownmedicine, then I think it’s time to file a formal report of complaint to the Malta Council of Science and Technology itself.
Let’s leave politics out of it, because if anybody files a complaint with the political party he represents, you know what’s going to happen. He’ll make a scene, his boss won’t tick him off to avoid further xenati, and on it will go, because the balance of power is held by an irresponsible prat.
But the Malta Council of Science and Technology can’t afford to have itself embarrassed by the atrocious, inappropriate and highly unbecoming behaviour of its chairman.
Imagine that: its chairman, posting links to anonymous slander and encouraging his Facebook friends to read it.
Incidentally, it’s not me who’s being slandered. It’s Lou Bondi and Rachel Attard, because now Jeffrey is in Saviour’s and Toni’s skip circle and must join in their chorus.
With me, the chairman of the Malta Council of Science and Technology has taken a different tack. He’s posted this on his Facebook wall and also on his chum Robert Musumeci’s Facebook wall:

I feel that denigrating your country or countrymen reflects a profound lack of self-esteem. Agreeing with a foreigner when he is doing so is typical of the sycophants who kow-towed to the British ‘Sahib’ in colonial times.
Does Jeffrey realise just how Far Right he sounds, and how talk like this blows his liberal image out of the water? Foreigners. Denigrating your country. National pride. Sycophants who kowtow to foreigners.
Well, he was the one who agreed with Joseph Muscat that all people who arrive by boat seeking refugee status should be shipped back immediately, if not left to drown without any rescue attempt.
Do you know what the worst of it is? That Jeffrey was given that chairmanship to shut him up – a complete misjudgement, because he’s going to spend the next year and a half taking and taking while lashing out, so he might as well have been given nothing – when we could have had a decent chairman who would have brought dignity, honour and professional competence to the role.
Il-vera imbarazz. I must say that he’s found his natural home among that human junk he now surrounds himself with. The conversations must be absolutely scintillating.

I think this goes perfectly well with his other far-right sentiments.
I would think that the opposite is actually the case – that not acknowledging major shortcomings in your country or countrymen reflects a profound lack of self-esteem.
That is in fact the case. Only the supremely secure and self-assured can mock themselves and be self-deprecating. But that implies both intelligence and a sense of humour, and there is no sign of either in our Jeffrey.

Neither Planck nor Bohr died in extermination camps. What are you on about?
My mistake, Bohr managed to escape arrest in 1943, fleeing Germany to join the Manhattan project whilst Planck’s youngest son died at the hands of the Gestapo.
Still, a number of physicists belonging to the Heidelberg group and who chose to remain didn’t survive the camps.
I think what you mean is that Malta will never produce a single figure of that calibre, because it stifles all genius. Correct?
“Fuga dei cervelli”. Those who take life and their careers seriously all leave Italy. I’m not speaking about the ones who are forced by the parents to enter university and graduate at 30 years. But the very bright ones.
I honestly feel ashamed and patronised that it is I and all other Maltese nationals who pay his wage. A disgrace to politics and diplomacy.

This is another in the list of disgraceful appointments in this country of individuals totally unsuitable for the high position they occupy (or occupied).
Of course there are grounds for denigrating my country, Mr Pullicino Orlando, when people like you are handed these plum jobs, to the detriment of more deserving individuals.
