Labour: another bitchfest

Published: October 23, 2011 at 11:18pm

How long is it going to take the Labour Party to realise that the only thing to do with REALLY stupid people like Jason Micallef is to get rid of them altogether?

So first they’re forced to abolish the post of secretary-general, an absurd solution to making sure he doesn’t get elected again.

Then they kick him sideways into the Super One chairmanship where he begins building a rival fiefdom along with his Queen Consort Ronnie Pellegrini and all those jolly nice boys with Vaselined eyebrows and interesting hair like Robert-Oh Francalanza’s.

When he’s feeling nice and secure and cosy and thinks that Super One is actually the political party rather than the political party’s propaganda arm, he begins to boast in public about Labour Party policies that the Labour Party hasn’t written yet because Karmenu Vella doesn’t know where to begin.

Like taking revenge on people the Labour Party doesn’t like.

Then the Labour Party, seeing the reaction this kind of statement gets, rushes to distance itself from Jason Micallef before the idea occurs to anyone that perhaps he’d been flying a kite.

“Jason Micallef is not responsible for drafting Labour’s policies. What he said is his personal opinion and should be interpreted as just that,” PL spokesman Kurt Farrugia said.

“Nobody will be excluded a priori and there will be a level playing field for everyone to submit ideas and productions for the national broadcaster,” he said, adding that the PL believed in plurality and in the fair representation of civil society.

I should think that a statement by a former secretary-general and current Super One supremo has to be read as something more than his personal opinion. For a start, we know something of Jason’s personal opinions by now and the way he takes them into the sort of bitchfests in which fur and feathers fly.

If he wants to exact revenge on Joe Azzopardi now, he’ll still want to exact revenge on Joe Azzopardi the year after next, and he’ll shriek and stamp and flounce and squawk until he’s pacified. I hear that he’ll be standing for election, in which case it is very likely that Joseph Muscat will find himself with his very own Pullicino Orlando.

Oh, is that where Jason gets his Botox done? And is Jeffrey working on Joseph’s hair follicles, too?

If the Chairman of Super One makes a statement like that and the party feels the need to disassociate itself from that statement, then, Jason Micallef should publish his own statement and make a correction.

And the party should demand his resignation.

If the PL wants us to believe it when it says “the PL believed in plurality and in the fair representation of civil society,” then clearly Jason Micallef cannot stay on as Chairman of Super One.

Jason Micallef is part of the Old New Labour of Alfred Sant.

What really amazes me is how this guy, who is after all still an employee, can get away with such behavior and still not get fired. Is he THAT important to them or maybe THAT powerful within the party?

On him being stupid, I agree but he still wears a big smile going to the bank. Personally, I believe that’s why he thinks he can get away with anything. He’s talentless, but he’s still capable of cashing in on big pay cheques.

      Big paycheques?

For what? The poor sod cannot even count, much less calculate, as evidenced by his gross miscalculation at the last general election.

I wonder how the station has done financially since he took over? But that would be asking too much since the LP refuses to make its financial statements public.

How very convenient. The Labour Party now has its own personal Smile Centre to keep its various exponents looking young and fresh….and facially immobile.

    But he’s their soothsayer.

    @Kurt Mifsud Bonnici

Yes, he is very powerful. He and Joseph Muscat are not simply colleagues, they are best mates.
