Are they manipulating him, again?

Cuschieri now having second thoughts about becoming an MEP
By Ivan Camilleri in Brussels
Joseph Cuschieri appears to be having second thoughts on whether he still wants to go to Brussels to take his seat in the European Parliament.
In surprise comments to timesofmalta.com this evening, Mr Cuschieri said that he still has to decide whether to take up his seat in Brussels or not.
“I have not yet been informed on when the sixth seat for Malta is becoming available. When I’m informed, I will decide whether I still want it or not. I am not going to take this seat just for the money involved. If there is no time to deliver politically, I won’t take the seat,” Mr Cuschieri insisted.
The Times last week quoted an EP spokesman stating that the new 18 MEPs from 12 member states who are to be added to the EP following the ratification of a protocol annexed to the Lisbon Treaty are now expected to join the Brussels chamber as fully-fledged MEPs by January the latest.
Asked to state clearly whether he will take his seat if this becomes available in two months’ time, as expected, Mr Cuschieri still didn’t want to commit himself.
“I can’t tell you yet as I have not taken a final decision. When I take it, I will inform everyone with my position.”
Mr Cuschieri won the right to become Malta’s sixth MEP when he finished in the runner’s up position after the five elected MEPs – three for Labour and two for the Nationalist Party – in the June 2009 elections.
As Mr Cuschieri now seems to be re-thinking his position, his declarations to ditch his MEP seat in Brussels might be welcome news for two other Labour candidates in the 2009 MEP elections – Marlene Mizzi and Claudette Abela Baldacchino – who ended up with the biggest number of Labour votes after Mr Cuschieri.
Mr Cuschieri had contested the last MEP election on the Labour ticket after resigning his seat as an MP to make way for party leader Joseph Muscat, himself a former MEP, to be able to join Malta’s Parliament.
Since then, Mr Cuschieri had been given a job at the PL headquarters.

Worked on a turkey ranch for one summer in Canada, while in graduate school.
The male turkeys would all line up in single file to mate with the hen. Some were so stupid that they mounted backwards.
Think we have another one here.
He’s only playing hard to get.
I think it’s more likely he’s being made to feel he’s needed here at the glasshouse in Mile End, lest he gives a bad reputation to the other Maltese Labour MEPs.
Why else would a former Magic Kiosk waiter want to forgo such a handsome salary and pension? It’s not as though he has any hopes of ever matching them in Malta. Or maybe he’s not as hungry as he likes to make out he is.
Xi dwejjaq ta’ intricci !
Mhux ghax se jaghmel differenza, imma jekk tela hu jmur hu. Hekk jew b’hekk, hemm Attard Montalto . X’jista’ jaghmel aghar minn John?
you’ll be surprised….
He is already under politically because he has to make up for all the trees that were cut to manufacture the tissues needed to wipe away his tears during the past years.
Maybe they have promised him an ambassadorship, who knows. From Brussels Sprout to Brazil Nut.
Of course he would say that, because if he doesn’t get his MEP seat, he will look like a fool.
I agree with him entirely.
Why should he dissipate his potential in the European Parliament?
His place is in Frankfurt in Bini Smaghi’s place.
There, and only there, can he bring his full talent to fruition.
Well, what a novel way to show respect towards the electorate….or is business not going well for Mrs Mizzi? Maybe she needs the cash to be able to employ a delivery man and buy a delivery van.
What a confused man. He should have stayed in the Maltese parliament. Life in Brussels is totally different to life in Malta and living abroad may not be to his liking. It is never easy to start a new life in another country when you reach a certain age.
Mur ara Marlene MEP. Mur zomma.
There was I thinking that all of Europe’s ails will be a thing of the past come January. What a let down!
Ma kontx nobsor għalik, Joseph.
I think he’s wary of what his party has become.
I think they want Marlene Mizzi to go instead.

I think it wouldn’t be such a bad thing if we had anyone other than Joseph Cuschieri as our 6th MEP.
