Balbuljata – Latest edition to the Campbell’s brand
Unbelievit!
“I WAS THINKING TODAY…”. Now that’s an achievement.
Yeah! Did it hurt?
Now we know how Labour thinks.
Actually, I love it! These people insist on writing comments in Maltese on timesofmalta.com (ghax ahna Maltin, u nitkellmu bil-Malti), yet, when they “migrate” to maltastar.com, they feel obliged to write comments in English – You know, biex juru kemm jafu.
Jien wieħed minn dawk li ġieli nikteb bil-Malti fuq it-TimesofMalta.
Forsi jekk toħorġu naqra mill-gżira u tkunu konxji ta’ x’qed jiġri fid-dinja tkunu tafu li llum mhux talli mhux biżżejjed tkun taf l-Ingliż u l-Malti talli kważi anqas il-Franċiż u t-Taljan magħhom ma huma biżżejjed aħseb u ara lingwa waħda. Ara tmorrux sal-Ewropa ċentrali ħa taraw kemm tinqdew bl-Ingliż?!
L-argument imma huwa ieħor … għalfejn l-Ingliż u l-Malti għandhom ikunu f’kompetizzjoni għadni ma nistax nifhem. L-anqas l-Ingliżi fi żmien il-kwistjoni tal-lingwa ma kellhom oġġezzjoni bħal din għax fehmu li l-lingwa materna essenzjali għall-apprediment u t-tagħlim. Opinjoni li ġiet sostnuta minn ħafna studji tas-soċjolingwistika.
Il-problema li dan it-tip ta’ ħsieb iwassal biex tieħdu deċizżjoni konxja li tkellmu l-uliedkom bl-ingliż biss imbagħad għax tarawhom imorru ħażin l-iskola u jipperikolaw il-karriera skolastika tagħhom tkunu tridu tbiddlu r-realta tad-dinja. Soluzzjoni waħda hemm: ifhmu darba għal dejjem li t-tfal jistgħu jitgħallmu lingwi kemm iridu…ma jitgħallmuhx il-Malti mhux għax diffiċli imma għax ikun hemm ġenituri bħalkom li ddaħħlulhom ħafna kummiedji f’moħħhom u ġġibuhom barranin ġo pajjiżhom.
L-Ewropa tivvalorizza dak li hu reġjonali imma għalikom l-Ewropa tfisser klassiżmu u kummiedji bħal dawn biex toqogħdu tieħdu t-te u tpeċilqu bħalma jpeċilqu b’lingwa differenti l-ħamalli ta’ naħat oħra. Xorta tal-istess pezza pero. Dak il-punt li titilfu matul it-triq.
Nittama li wliedkom ma jbatux minħabba d-deċiżjonijiet lingwistiċi assurdi tagħkom li ma għandhom xejn modern u wisq anqas ma jirriflettu r-realta li qed ngħixu fiha.
Il-Malti mhuwiex biss lingwa imma wkoll identita li intom stess tiffurmaw parti minnha. Ara toħorġux tal-gustużi u tgħidu li ġo Malta titkellmu bl-Ingliż ħa taraw kif iħarsu lejkom il-barranin! Forsi minn quddiemkom jidħqulkom imma fil-verita jgħaddu ż-żmien bikom. Darba waqt konferenza li attendejt għaliha xi ħadd sostna li f’Malta kulħadd jitkellem bl-Ingliż minkejja li għandna l-Malti u mingħalih li se jidħqulu. Is-soltu, inwaqqa’ għaċ-ċajt lil pajjiżi biex jien nidher superjuri. Ma taħdimx hekk. Kulħadd ħares LEJH bil-ħarsa ta’ “inti f’sensik jew?…
Fi kliem ieħor Grezz wassal il-punt tiegħek kemm trid b’liema lingwa trid imma ġo pajjiżna tilgħabiex tal-intelliġenti u tgħaddi ġudizzju għax tikteb żewġ sentenzi bl-Ingliż, għax fil-verita ma jfisser xejn. Li tmur temarġina bi kliemek l-ilsien Malti juri li l-kultura tiegħek hija limitata ħafna u li l-provinċjalizmu Malti ġabet WISQ aktar Malti milli filfatt minghalik li mintix.
Jekk ma fhimt xejn għax tant int intelliġenti li taf lingwa waħda biss meta llum anki jekk tkun taf 4 lingwi mhux biżżejjed … hemm google translate u bejn wieħed u ieħor tinduna x’tixriba tajtek, bil-lingwa li mingħalik mhix tajba biżżejjed biex tesprimi li trid. Imma bħal kull strument trid tkun taf tħaddmu!
Apparti li stilistikament dik il-kitba ta’ hawn fuq li ġabet Daphne hemm possibilitá kbira li hija ivvintata u miktuba apposta minn xi ħadd, pero ma għandix ċans wisq biex noqgħod nispjega għalfejn. Min ma jafx jikteb Ingliż sew ma jiktibx hekk. u għallimt snin biżżejjed biex inkun naf tajjeb x’qed ngħid.
U nagħlaq billi ngħidlek Sur Grezz li weġibtek għax żeffint lil kulħadd u tfajt lil kulħadd fl-istess borma u għax lgħabtha tal-bravu fuq argument li huwa għal qalbi u ħassejtni mġarrab bi kliemek …allura la ridtha ħudha Sur Mister!
Ghaziez Pepito,
Ma nistghax nifhem ghalfejn qed thambaq u tehodha kontra l-kumment ta’ Grezz.
Fil-verita, it-tnejn li intkom qed taqblu fuq l-istess haga. Biss pero Grezz irredikola dak li kiteb Alec, ghax, nghiduwha kif inhi, ma tantx ghamel sens.
Jien naqbel hafna mieghek ghax jien wiehed minn dawk li fejn ikum hemm bzonn nikteb, l-ewwel ghazla li tigini f’mohhi hi li nikteb bil-Malti. Jien tassew kburi li naf nitkeb bil-Malti, b’ilsieni!
Ghaldaqstant, nahseb li hawn hafna nies, li Alec jidher bic-car li huwa wiehed minnhom, li vilment jghidulek li bil-Malti ma jafux jiktbu u jhossuwhom ahjar jiktbu b’l-Ingliz. Biex inkun ghidt kollox, hafna mil-kliem li kiteb Alec huma fil-fatt bl-Ingliz. Biss pero ma jfissirx li l-moghod kif qieghdhom jaghmlu sens.
U dan huwa fejn jidhol ir-redikolu ta’ Grezz…. u naqbel mieghu. Kwazi kwazi, jekk tixtieq twassal il-punt tieghek, u int Laburist illiterat, ahjar tikteb hazin bil-Malti ghax b’xi mod ha tiftiehem. Imma tikteb bill mod li kiteb Alec, b’ Ingliz imcaflas, huwa taz-zufjett. Anzi, nuza kliemu: vera tal-Mickey Mouse!
I believe people should comment in the same language as used by the media in which they comment (be they online newspapers, blogs or whatever).
In English language media, I only use Maltese when replying to someone else writing in Maltese, and vice-versa.
It’s just a matter of etiquette.
This is an English-language blog, and The Times is an English-language newspaper, so I feel that we should respect the target audience.
People tend to forget that this blog and The Times are also read by non-Maltese speakers.
To the Maltese-language fanatics. Imagine being invited somewhere and people insist on using what to you is an alien language.
Would you think that all is OK, they are proud of their language. Or would you think that they are a bunch of uncultured barbarians, lacking the very basic of manners?
Personally, I prefer to read see a well-written comment, albeit in the wrong language, than a silly idiotic comment in the correct language any time, on whatever medium.
Anyway, at the end of the day, as its Daphne’s blog, she decides.
Yawn!
Certainly not a Smart Alec. Although incredibly, he’s managed to spell ‘parliament’ beautifully! Copied maybe?
[Daphne – And chapter (and he knows what that is). I strongly suspect that somebody’s making fun of Maltastar on its own turf.]
Yes I think so. I mean, there’s bad, then there’s REALLY bad. But this is just TOO bad to be true.
Ara vera mitna ghalxejn…….
u ghal barrani….
Mitna ghall-poontang – sorry, pusang.
emm, ma nistax nifhima sew! Tghid m’ghadnix naf naqra bl-ingliz!?
Ommi ma!
“I was thinking today”. Why, what does he/she/it do on other days?
Who wrote that?
Hu rote det????
Yesterday, we had Joseph Muscat boast in parliament about things the MLP achieved some 50/60 years ago.
The day before during Grima’s Inkontri, the PN’s Charlo Bonnici mentioned the atrocities that happened in the 70s and 80s and he was told not to mention them because they are now history.
How’s that for perversity?
ANYWAY TIME GIVE US RESULT NO ? 2ND CHAPTER IS TODAY ……NOTHING ELSE … WAIT FOR AN OTHER
Maybe he meant “Wait for an otter”? Referring to Cyrus Engerer maybe?
It’s no longer otter, but beaver.
Beaver? Is there something we should be told? Been to Pastor Gordon Manche, has he?
The worst bit is the last bit. “WAIT FOR AN OTHER.”
Shall we hold our breath?
Dak ghal joseph kien qed jghid, biex nistennewh seklu iehor.
It would be helpful if Maltastar would, in future, give us an indication as to which secret code is being used.
Labour crackers in Campbell’s soup.
Hi Daphne,
I suggest you write in Maltese instead of in English, so that the poor elves will ‘maybe’ understand your arguments and insult you less.
Maybe he/she wrote it in Maltese and used Google translate? But no, that would mean that at least the spelling would be correct…
ALEC’s comment reads like the instruction manual of a Chinese food blender.
Was that written in code?
For the past fifty years I remember consecutive labour leaders lament the fact that English written newspapers are always lambasting Labour and glorifying the PN.
Ad nauseum, from Mintoff through Alfred Sant, they kept harping that the (M)LP needs its own English language newspaper.
They wanted one so badly, that they even burnt down the Times’ building. If Labour couldn’t have one, ‘mhux fier li l-ohrajn ghandhom’.
Finally they have it and just look what they managed to do with it.
How’s that for being progressive and moderate.
