Jeffrey and Jesmond – the John Dalli tools

Now we can put the timing of Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando’s announcement that he is to retire from politics in the context of this report. Perhaps he thought that the news would be a PR blow to ‘GonziPN’, instead of a cause for celebration. Antipatiku.

In The Sunday Times today:

(The Malta Council for Science and Technology) was ordered by the Office of the Prime Minister not to host Friday’s seminar by a Norwegian company claiming to offer cheaper and cleaner energy solutions, The Sunday Times has learnt.

The agency chairman, Nationalist MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando yesterday confirmed he received instructions from the OPM “not to have anything to do with the conference”.

The reason given, he added, was that the conference did not fall under the Malta Council for Science and Technology’s remit.

Dr Pullicino Orlando said that he had to deliver the opening speech at the conference and the agency’s chief executive Nicholas Sammut was to address participants.

Adverts that appeared in some newspapers, including The Sunday Times, had announced that the business meeting was to be held at Villa Bighi under the aegis of the MCST.

However, the agency’s withdrawal prompted a change of venue and the meeting was held at the Westin Dragonara Hotel instead.

Dr Pullicino Orlando and Dr Sammut did not attend the presentation and no government officials were present. However, Enemalta was represented by its executive chairman and chief technical officer.

Nationalist MP Jesmond Mugliett was the only politician from the ruling party to attend.

    “the ruling party”

I thought for a moment that Kurt Sansone, who is listed as the author of this piece, was referring to China or North Korea.

      instead of

‘MP Jesmond Mugliett was the only politician from the Nationalist Party to attend.’

Does Sansone mean Jesmond Mugliett is a Nationalist surrounded by those who rule?

Isn’t the MCST an agency that deals with research and innovation?

Then surely Sargas’s project, which its promoters claim is a technology well beyond its research and development phase, is not within the remit of MCST.

But I can understand that JPO must have felt let down when he was deprived of yet another opportunity for some media attention…from One.

Ahem. MCST just hands out FP7 funds. That’s the sum total of its function.

Of course some scientists have proposed theories where self-congratulatory half-true articles in the papers are considered as research and innovation.
