Just look at the famous ’51 proposti’ – they’re like something drafted by Il-Partit tal-Farfett

Published: November 23, 2011 at 1:19am

I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to leave them in Maltese, so that absolutely none of the subtle nuances are lost in translation. I honestly do not know how otherwise serious politicians do not feel shame or embarrassment being associated with rubbish like this.

I am not talking about Class A arrogant idiots like Silvio Parnis or Joe Debono Grech or Anglu Farrugia or Toni Abela, who wouldn’t know a policy if it ran at them screaming abuse and wearing flashing pink lights on its head saying I AM A POLICY.

But what about those very few politicians in the Labour Party who are considered to have at least a bit of dignity or intelligence or even both?

Are they really so ruthlessly ambitious that they will stay with this ship of fools if that’s what it takes to get themselves a bit of power and authority over others?

Labour aren’t funny, anymore. They’re frightening. Some of their proposti don’t even qualify as proposals or even as ideas.

Look at this unbelievable statement, for instance, number 29 on the list of 51:

29. Nemmnu fl-industrija bħala parti important mill-pjan tagħna għal aktar tkabbir ekonomiku.

That’s a proposal?

Read them all below. You’ll need a stiff pot of Earl Grey, but persist. This is your future, so remember that forewarned is forearmed.

“3. Messaġġ ċar lis-self employed: INĦALLUKOM TAĦDMU u f’anqas burokrazija.”

IINĦALLUKOM TAĦDMU, eh? Were they planning not to allow anyone to work?

  9. Farrugia says:

I do not think that there is anything extraordinary in these proposals (or policies as they call them). What is remarkable is the lack of new strategies needed by the country to overcome global challenges of the future.

The most pressing challenge is that of natural resources or the lack of them.

The foreign policy of many countries is already linked to access and acquisition of natural resources, yet for the Labour party natural resources are not a priority. For example there is no mention of oil exploration or the economic use of stone and water, which are finite resources.

Ultimately, no vision for the future, just business as usual attitude as if the economic parameters dictated by global events and realities will remain constant for ever.

All they care about is : Joseph Prim Ministru; Anglu Deputat Kap’, Jose Ministru, Consuelo Imhallef, Karozzi blue ghal filghodu u biex jiehud it-trfal l-iskola u il mara ghax-xoppink; August Moon Ball, biex il mara tilbes ivnink!! that’s what they see for the future of Malta – to be vulgar, x’jitnejku mill-ekonomija, I’m all right f*** you jack!

The comments by your bloggers, are exactly what was expected. Is it possible that all the 51 proposals are all bad?

I don’t even think that we had enough time to study them properly before rushing to condemn them.

It is usually the P.L. supporters who are ready to condem anything that the P.N does or says.

I think we should be mature enough to say that yes some of them don’t sound feasible but others, most of them, would be very good for our country if of course the P.L would implement them once they are in office.

What I consider as the most important is not who is in government but who does the most and best for my country.

Ghal li jista’ jkun, Muscat ma’ hasibx li ta’ madwaru ser jiehdu gost bi proposta no.18? U mela le!

      • silvio says:

        Harry Purdie,

I am certain it is “obvious” to you but I am likewise certain that there are still thousands of voters who do not even bother knowing what their party is promising.

They will just vote to see their party elected, come what may.

Even worse when it comes to voting for the candidates, they will just tick their name, as long as there is the party logo next to their name, without even knowing who they are.

So you see it isn’t so “obvious”, what is” obvious” is that their vote counts exactly as yours and mine.

      • ciccio2011 says:

Someone should tell Joseph Muscat that Offices with authority to investigate, report on, review or audit Ministers and their departments cannot be commissioned to draw up a mechanism for the remuneration of those Ministers, because those investigative Offices will then not be perceived to be independent when they criticise those Ministers or the departments for which they are responsible.

How can the Ombudsman or the Auditor General criticise the competence of a Minister if the Auditor was the one to set the mechanism that determines the salary of the Minister?

The Minister’s reply will be “Unless you pay me properly, you cannot expect me to give that level of performance.”

In private sector corporate governance, the Remuneration Committees are normally separate from the Audit Committees.

The one i liked most is this:

    22. L-eta’ tal-irtirar tibqa ma tgħoliex.

    A proposal to do nothing…

    Tajba

  14. Scerri S. says:

    “22. L-eta’ tal-irtirar tibqa ma tgħoliex.”

Is it my tired mind, or should this read: “L-eta’ ta l-irtirar ma tibqghax toghla.”,or maybe “L-eta’ ta l-irtirar tibqa’ kif inhi.”?

  15. Lomax says:

JM’s budget speech contradicted proposal 41. He harshly criticised the fact that the only category benefiting from tax cuts is the category made up of two working partners who have children.

Why not all families, he asked?

He also criticised the fact that people on social assistance are not benefitting fully from the effects of the budget. Being socialists at heart, they cannot really understand and accept that whoever contributes more should benefit more.

So how can we believe Joseph Muscat in the face of such a glaring contradiction.

However most of these proposti are no proposti at all. They are like my saying: I want to lose weight or I want to become rich. I would say they are sad to read because thet just further prove how JM has absolutely no substance at all.

  16. Mike Ellul says:

Maybe he was thinking of the aliens at area51

  17. Joe Camilleri says:

  19. Jake says:

In my opinion many of these proposals are just general statement &/or principles that most people all agree on. Other proposals the way they have been worded are a bit too unprofessional if they were presented as they are on this blog.

However, there are some proposals that are interesting and that are concrete or come close to that – these in my opinion are the following: 1, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 18 & 21.

  20. Silvio Farrugia says:

‘ kwalita’ tal-prodot f’industrija tat -turismun ! and then flowers and plants in roundabouts and road sides is ‘hela tal-flus’ , the breakwater bridge is ‘hela’ , city gate project is ‘lussu’ and so many more ……..

    • Jozef says:

Infatti. Jekk ma jkunux huma hela ta’ flus. Mhux ghalhekk in-nies tibza’ minnhom? Min ghandu wiccu tost ma’ jindunax kemm jinsolenta l-intelligenza ta’ min ikun qed jisma’.
