How about this for your typically Maltese sense of perspective?

We won! At last, we can park!

A comment beneath the story titled ‘Spinola Bay Project Announced’, on timesofmalta.com:

Michael Borg
a private car park
remove all parking spaces and you will have no choice but to PAY to park !!!!
another case is bugibba near Fra Ben we had 250 free car spaces there it s gone and it will be replaced with a PAY car park !!
tal biki !!! we need an ARAB revolution here this is to much

Now I’m just trying to picture this man fighting in ‘an ARAB revolution’. No doubt he is the sort who will expect others to do it for him, and who will sit at home complaining if they don’t.

If this SMS is authentic, then we haven’t really come far since the days of Lorry Pullicino and co, have we?

“The message, seen by The Times read: “Kery tel tery that if he does not return to hospital he is in deep sh** and can 4 get d deal. Now u r helping a fugitive as wel congrats! I wil not rest til i track u both down – insp theuma”.” ( http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20111221/local/Man-vanishes-after-a-night-in-custody.399330 )

Not very professional, to put it mildly, but that’s about it?

There is nothing wrong with the message itself – I mean, apart from the way it is written and delivered.

Maybe there was some familiarity between the Insp. and this fellow’s wife (in an innocent manner) and he was banking on that by communicating in such a “familiar” manner.

Cops have their tactics I suppose.

    @ Michael Borg

In civilized countries, parking meters are the norm and if you park your car without feeding the meter, then a hefty fine will discourage you from repeating the offence.

Dare to not pay the fine? Then your licence will not be renewed until you do.

Here we want everything for ‘free’. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a free lunch, not here, not anywhere.

When you park your car you are occupying public space. Parking meters ensure that you pay a small rent for the privilege.

It’s a little known fact that the Arab Spring was really a massive turf war over parking spaces in Tahrir Square.

I wonder how Michael Borg would feel about giving Arabs Maltese citizenship. That’s the only way an Arab revolution could happen in Malta.

  5. Silvio Farrugia says:

Let us admit it…it is getting difficult nay impossible to park anywhere. Ok, for some it seems it is not important but everybody is getting a lot of hussle when the time comes to park one’s car.It also seems to me that local councils and the government are always decreasing the parking spaces.

They use the banal excuse not to encourage people to use their cars. What is happening about money paid for car space parking ( as in Paceville ) ?

One encourages people to abandon their cars by giving a good ,fast and comfortable bus system. I hope that this new bus system will be good so even I will start to use it.Till now I am afraid to do so in case I arrive late for work.

This self-important person is just seeking his 15 minutes of fame. .

I’m all smiles for the Spinola project – yet another one dedicated to the embellishment of the nicest areas in Malta.
