Slick has many meanings and one of them suits Joseph: “Superficially attractive or plausible but lacking depth or soundness” (according to http://www.freedictionary.com).
I don’t know about attractive or plausible but “lacking depth” is a perfect description.
I guess there could be some who might get turned on by the sight of a pumpkin head. You can never account for some people’s tastes.
How dare that hired pen Vassallo refer to the Tal Barrani days as the – “throw-backs to the SO-CALLED ‘dark days’ of Old Labour -“?

iT IS AN INSULT TO ALL THOSE WHO WERE BEATEN UP , GASSED,ARRESTED, MANHANDLED AND WORSE SIMPLY FOR EXERCISING THEIR RIGHT TO TAKE PART IN AN AUTHORISED POLITICAL GATHERING.
Shame on you Mr Vassallo and shame on Maltatoday.
[Daphne – His father was one of the professors assaulted at the university when those same people over-ran the place with their chains as part of Mintoff’s ‘reform process’. And his sister – one of my oldest friends, as it happens – is married to PN candidate John Zammit Montebello. Raphael has always been extremely strange. Malta Today collects them for its cabinet of curiosities. The sooner James Debono gets out of there, the better. It’s not doing his credibility or reputation any good.]
In other words, Mr Vassallo has no excuse to express himself as he did. Salvu Balzan seems to collect misfits as easily as a fresh cow pat collects flies.
Raphael is just following the orders of his masters to discredit the goverment in any way they can.
That is the only way they can hope to win the next election. And his masters at the moment are none other than the Labour Party.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Raymond Caruana’s death. The PN has always held a ceremony in his memory.
It seems this time Labour are particularly keen to disrupt that memory, trying to imply the ceremony is a gimmick, invented this year. Which shows how sensitive they are to their political adversary and its voters.
Do they realise even a good number of their own mark that day? Including women whose sons were his peers?
They cannot forget their own horrible past, yet they continuously try to tell us to look forward and not backwards.
If only they took their own advice, they would not try so hard to trivialize the sad event of their criminal past.
On another note…spot the difference:

What shame!
‘And his sister’s husband – one of my oldest friends, as it happens – is married to PN candidate John Zammit Montebello’
[Daphne – Corrected. Late night and too much work.]
Here it is, Daphne – I heard it over, over and over.
Our new pumpkin star from a humble beginning at Maltastar later moved on to a job with Alfred Mifsud and then became an MEP and leader of the Labour Party, soon to become prime minister in an amazing career trajectory. He is so big and important that now even his former desk buddy at Maltastar, Kurt Farrugia, calls him Il-Mexxej.
So any ‘journalist’ can become a leader of the New Progressive Lejber, of course he has to have a flop record as his main credential.
Have a go, Daphne – try to become The New Progessive leader of the Labour Party. At least your record of personality is better than that of the new found ‘Mexxej’.
“Esperjenza fil-Maltastar”
X’kwalifika’, dik.
Why is Mr. Slick suggesting that Malta should go back to coal technology? Shouldn’t that worry Herr Flick?
And good thing too. It’ll make men of us, Ciccio. Tough, brawny, streaked with finely-layered coal-dust, we’ll dazzle the village maidens with our close harmony singing.
