Pathetic. An MSc in ‘tourism management’ at the age of 50 – from Sheffield Hallam University, ranked 367th

Unbelievable to think they're still around and gearing up to run our lives. Really progressive, God bless.

So it turns out that Malta’s Giant Tourism Expert felt the need to get some credentials at the age of 50 – an MSc in tourism management, from Sheffield Hallam University (strapline – ‘Sharpens Your Thinking’), which is ranked 367th.

Better still, the architect of our destiny, Il-Guy, has decided to list this massive achievement on his second Facebook page, Karmenu Vella II.

As he said on Bondi+ ‘Hawn irqattlu l-korda’, Daphne ! tsk…

Pathetic, I agree – just like this former minister who started his MBA with Henley at the venerable age of 56:

“Bħalissa beda kora fl-MBA ma’ Henley, l-Unversita’ ta’ Reading.”

    Mur gibhom fil-freshers week!

[Daphne – MBAs, unlike MSces in tourism management, are invariably read for in middle age, DV. This is for two reasons. They usually mark a midstream career change and, the most crucial reason of all, without many years of work behind you, you can’t bring much to an MBA programme or take much away at the end. Either way, and whatever the circumstances, people of a certain age should never volunteer information about their degrees or academic background, unless they are asked for it specifically, because by that age it is your non-degree achievements which should be doing the talking. I would never bother with a degree in my late 50s or discuss it, but there you go.]

    Labour’s proposal number 37:

“37. Inpoġġu t-turiżmu bħala pilastru ewlieni li jgħin fit-tkabbir ekonomiku.”

The Perit must be busy erecting that pillar.

It seems that his MSc from Sheffield Hallam had little effect on Guy’s way of thinking. Otherwise he would have refrained from referring to the 1970s as the Golden Years.

I can’t really understand the occhio of such argument. Are you seriously stating that studying at a mature age would just be done for showoff??? Or that once it is not your first degree then you should not mention it?? Are you serious about this??

I wish at such age I would still have the will and determination to keep on studying. God Bless him.

BC, one question mark after each question is enough. The extra ones, you can give to Glenn Bedingfield.

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

She means that when you aspire to be a cabinet minister, and tout your ministerial experience as your winning card, you don’t mention your degrees. Neither the first degree nor the last.

I wish at such age I’d have the good grace to retire and not keep hogging the limelight.

    • Hey BC,

If I were you I would commence with the studies right away. Guess how many errors and mistakes you managed to cram in four lousy sentences? Go ahead, why don’t you.

      • BC says:

And by the way, you just confirmed my comment, it’s never late to begin studying, George you impressed me.

      • Richard Borg says:

George, not to sound pedantic, but the tab labelled as website (when posting a comment) means that one should type-in the website he is affiliated to (not your email address as you have done)

Why not ask entrapreurs in the tourism industry what they think of KV’s performance as tourisk minister?

And whilst at it, why not ask Corinthia too? They should know something about it too.

To me, its more sensible to vet in such a manner, rather than have you rubbishing his accademic endeavours.

[Daphne – His knowledge of tourism had nothing to do with it (he had no such experience at the time). His Libyan connections did – as with John Dalli.]

    • Nitpicker says:

      1. entrepreneurs (the origin’s French)

      2. tourism minister. ‘Tourisk’ is not a word.

3.’Whilst’ is outdated. ‘While’ is preferable.

      4. ‘its’ is the possessive form. You meant to say “it’s” (it is).

      5. ‘academic’, not ‘accademic’
