Wenger – I don’t know where my medals are

By Rob Kelly

Arsène Wenger says it is more important to look to the future than dwell on the past – and admits he does not know where his winners’ medals are.

The Arsenal manager has won an array of trophies over the course of his managerial career, and begins this year’s FA Cup campaign against Leeds on Monday night.

But Wenger says that despite his pride in his past achievements, he does know where he has stored any of the honours he has collected.

“That’s why we fight for [success] – winners’ medals. They [the players] want to play at the top level,” he said.

“I don’t know where I have my medals. I look forward for the next one, for the next game, for the next win. That is the life of a top-level player.

“A top-level player wants to play at the top. He wants to win medals. But there is a difference between playing in the Champions League and playing at a lower level.

“I don’t think I keep [my medals]. I don’t know where the ‘Invincibles’ medal is because it is more important what is in front of you.”

If Franco were in Arsenal’s team, he’d be leading a mutiny against the coach because they’ve now run 6 and a half years without a trophy.

Arsene Wenger needs to come to Malta to lecture some people.

As over here people have become obsessed by designer brand names (for clothing) and live in a world reliant on the amount of certificates they’ve achieved.

This obsession has led to a materialistic trend in which people define themselves by their possessions, certificates, which are only superficial.

    Maltese society lacks individuality.

Text from J.K. Rowling’s long speech following the awarding of her honorary degree; Harvard Gazette.

“So given a Time Turner, I would tell my 21-year-old self that personal happiness lies in knowing that life is not a check-list of acquisition or achievement.

Your qualifications, your CV, are not your life, though you will meet many people of my age and older who confuse the two. Life is difficult, and complicated, and beyond anyone’s total control, and the humility to know that will enable you to survive its vicissitudes.”

    How very true !
