Manuel Mallia: star speaker at the Labour conference this morning
Seedy, sleazy criminal lawyer Manuel Mallia was given the most important slot at the closing session of Labour’s annual general conference this morning: the slot before the closing speech by the Great Leader.
And what did Manuel, who mercifully wasn’t wearing a red sweat-shirt and amusing spectacles this time, have to say?
He became a lawyer because his father wanted him to.
He joined the Nationalist Party because blah blah blah.
Now he’s joined the Labour Party because the Nationalist Party is “finished” (translation: he sees no openings for him there, thank God) and because Joseph Muscat shares his values.
That’s right. That’s what he said:
“Joseph Muscat’s values are like mine. My values are like Joseph’s.”
I always had a very low opinion of Joseph Muscat and his pragmatic, shallow, egocentric, amoral opportunism. But it doesn’t feel good to have this confirmed by Mister Sleaze himself.
Start worrying, Michelle.

Min jaf x’jitqalleb Guido De Marco fil-qabar! Qatt ma mar jiddandan warajh b’dak l-ilbies ahmar. X’jahseb li hu? Illum nafu li Franco huwa l-aqwa Avukat tal-Kriminal, skond Franco stess. Xi jghid Dottor Mallia?
All the star candidates seem to know Joseph’s values and policies. The problem is that the rest of us haven’t got a clue. Isn’t it time that they speak about them?
In the meantime….

“Joseph Muscat’s values are like mine………”
Holy Mackerel!
Is Joey into mail-order East-European female companions young enough to be his grand-daughters?
Interesting concept, joining a party because the other one is ‘finished’.
How noble of him to join Labour to help steer it away from the same fate.
I suppose the delegati were thrilled.
Sanghisughi.
Daphne, please check Edward Scicluna’s website. He is advertising a public discussions for 26th and 27th january 2012, miskin u kumbinazzjoni fil-5 u 8 distrett fejn ha jikkontesta. Viva flus l-S&D, basta niftahru bil-kredibilita.
I suppose Joseph won’t be too upset; he did bring over Martin Schultz for his campaign.
He will now be given a baton and put in charge of the Luftwaffe.
Manuel Mallia will expect to be given something. I mean, bniedem ta’ dik il-portata mhux ser joqghod id-dar ma jaghmel xejn.
So, let’s see. What is he expecting to get? I daresay some ministry linked with justice. But where does that leave Jose and Anglu, two veterans of the PL? OK, so we have three candidates but one job.
Even though I have to say, this morning Manuel Mallia made quite a show of flattering and praising Anthony Zammit, Alfred Sant’s learned surgeon.
Now, Mallia being the man that he is, couldn’t have heaped such praise on Zammit gratuitously so I cannot help but wonder what’s in it for him.
What about then Jason Micallef’s klikka? He will surely expect to head PBS or some other broadcasting position.
Gino Cauchi is clearly expecting something: he said so himself – he said that (and I quote because I was utterly shocked to hear him say it now that they’re still very much in opposition) the young and new candidates shouldn’t expect to get something whilst the old ones “jibqghu barra”.
So, Gino Cauchi and, no doubt, many others like him, see two types of candidates: those who have been there through thick and thin and those who are new and jumping on the bandwagon.
There is the Sandro Chetcuti klikka who, I overheard in a cafe’ recently in Valletta (not one to speak discreetly now, is he) is rubbing his hands in glee at the prospect of that *multiple swear and insolent words* Gonzi jitlef il-Gvern.
There is the “dinosaur klikka”, Karmenu Vella, AST, and their fellow merry men who are clearly gloating over the current impasse and openly licking their lips at the buffet which will shortly be opened by the royal couple (i.e. the Muscats).
I wonder how many others fellow followers of this blog can come up with.
And please, Daphne, never ever use this picture again.
It’s revolting to see that red sweat-shirt on a man his age. It’s even more revolting to see that red bandana/shawl or whatever it is tied around a black bag. X’ hamallagni.
“Manuel Mallia – he joined Labour because Joseph shares his values”
Now wait a minute. Didn’t he join Labour’s LGBT also?
“He joined the Nationalist Party because blah blah blah”.
And so say all of us.
Blah blah blah.
