School Report News and Speculation

The school report Franco summoned TVM to film

Right, you will all know by now that yesterday, Franco Debono summoned the TVM news crew to his home and they raced there thinking he’s going to make some cataclysmic statement about his hysterical reaction to not getting the Justice Minister job.

Instead, he refused to let them film him or interview him on camera, did not want to talk about the day’s events, and showed the crew a piece of paper with numbers on it, which he insisted they film. It was his mid-year Form II school report, from when he was 12 and at St Aloysius College.

Those are the facts. Now let’s discuss them.

His mid-year Form II report was not a random choice. It is significant. He chose that one for a reason, and whatever the reason is, it clearly means so much to him that it has shaped his personality and self-regard ever since.

What was important about that particular school report, and why did it affect his psyche so permanently? We have to rack our brains.

I think it might be because it was the only time he got higher marks than Joseph Muscat in every subject. But you might have other ideas.

I am told, reliably, that the height of his mental crisis some weeks ago, when he went to speak to Eddie Fenech Adami to press his suit for greater recognition and then blabbed about it disgracefully on television and to the press, Franco Debono took a school report along with him.

It must have been this one.

I really would have loved to have been a fly on the wall and watched the scene. It must have tested Fenech Adami’s array of subtly deadpan expressions to the hilt.

The interesting thing about this piece of paper is how well-worn it is. He must carry it around with him like some people carry photographs of their children, or their dogs.

And he probably puts it to really good use before he goes to bed at night, given that he drops the GF off at her own home before he does that, and has been doing so for 10 years.

I actually pity this man as he is clearly unwell.

    • Not Sandy :P says:

And he isn’t being helped by the very people who should take him gently aside and coax him into getting the professional help he so clearly needs.

    • il-Ginger says:

His mental derangement is messing everything up.

      Could you effing imagine it?

Joseph Muscat, inaugurating the parliament building attaparzi he did it all?

10 years down the line, you’ll hear Laburisti boasting of how Joseph modernised Valletta and gave Malta its first parliament building, like he took us into the European Union.

I’m having some concerns that all this saga is one of the very best ploys ever devised and implemented by the PN strategy team – exploiting and using Franco’s temperament – so that the PN can win the early election on sheer sympathy.

Moreover apart from over-demonising Franco (rightly or wrongly), the one seat majority ‘problem’ will also be used to attack AD, as a potential threat to a stable government, should they stumble their way to a parliamentary seat – albeit with the electoral law and inflated threshold that the main parties have retained, such a feat requires some AD 50,000 voters.

  3. V.Vella says:

Ridiculous! A man in his late 30s still thumbing a school report from 25 years ago!

Does he really think we’ re impressed with his achievements in Form 2?

His mother ought to be hanging her head in shame for raising such a poor specimen of manhood. Even my gun dog behaves better.

  4. Antoine Vella says:

I see that even when Franco Debono was in Form IIC, there was someone telling him to “keep it up”.

Back then, St Aloysius’ College had only recently re-opened its gates, after KMB had forced the Jesuits to close it down.

Speaking of Jesuits, perhaps they should pay a little less attention to academic achievements and give more importance to helping their little boys grow up. I know they have occasionally produced some fine politicians but the Joseph Muscat/Franco Debono batch doesn’t seem to have been their best vintage.

  5. cannot-resist-anymore says:

I believe that one of the teacher’s remarks reads: ” Keep it up Franco, one day you will be Justice Minister.”

  6. Jozef says:

What if Franco’s obsession with Joseph was reciprocal? I mean here they are this morning ‘daring’ the prime minister to call a vote of confidence.

They should have the balls for that themselves. It’s pathetic.

  7. oldtimer says:

I cannot understand why Franco Debono is not ashamed to be seen in public.

  8. Mike Wagstaff says:

It’s about time that the men in white suits are sent to Franco Debono’s address. Can the Health Minister arrange it?

  9. Amanda says:

He showed that school report to Dr Gonzi as well as to Dr Fenech Adami. Dr Gonzi admits as much in an interview in tomorrow’s The Sunday Times.

A comedian couldn’t make this stuff up.

Daphne, Is there anything in the Constitution that prohibits the mentally unhinged from holding a seat in Parliament?

[Daphne – Yes, but they have to be certified as such.]

He’s probably used to receiving these sort of comments, and thinks that it’s normal:
