UPDATED WITH SARKY REMARK: Simon Busuttil and Evarist Bartolo

These are excerpts from last Saturday’s Dissett on TVM.
SARKY REMARK UPDATE: Isn’t Varist supposed to be Labour’s English-language guru, apostle of the importance of teaching and using English? Aren’t the middle classes (the real ones) supposed to admire him for this? Isn’t he married to a tal-pepe Sacred Heart ‘girl’?
So exactly what are ‘slow guns’? Ah, he means slogans. Bil-Malti.

At the end Evarist wanted to point out that once in power you have a lot of work to perform, including local government, EU, etc. Unbelievable.
Dissett is a well researched programme, but its bias is quite transparent . Remember that its presenter worked in the Xandir Malta newsroom during the 80s.
And that high-pitched voice trying to interrupt with some faux Tim Sebastian riposte is quite irritating.
Simon’s last words in this except are unbeatable. Franco can only dream of having Simon’s standing in the Nationalist Party. One is an intelligent gentleman, the other is a Macchiavellian prima donna.
THIS should make Franco even more envious – the approach, the personality, the calmness, the assertiveness. Ghalehekk jaghtu kasu, Franco.
Kbir wisq Dr. Simon……..prosit
Last week’s Bondi+ was biased again.
The BA awarded a right of reply to the PN as remedy.
tsk tsk.
Simon Busuttil is top of his class (b’rispett kollu, Franco).
I love how at one point, he and Reno Bugeja just continued the discussion between them, totally blanking Evarist Bartolo’s incessant and rude interuptions.
Was this perhaps the missile which, according to Malta Today Libya fired towards Malta at the peak of the revolution?

Daphne, keep these sort of clips coming.
From now up to the election date the Nationalist Party has to pick its best elements to represent it on radio and television.
It cannot afford to allow well meaning MPs to be bullied into submission, especially by the Socialist media.
It is now about promoting the party effectively, and there is much to promote, and not personal glory.
You think that Simon is Gonzi’s natural replacement? This could easily happen within six months’ time now.
With all due the respect, that would not be fair.
He was offered the post of Secretary-General – and preferred the salary in Brussels.
He was asked to contest the 2012-2013 elections, it so seems, but yet again, he prefers not to join what he seems to consider a losing brigade.
Yet, then he would expect to run for leadership after that?
If he truly loves the Nationalist Party, he should be at the forefront now, not waiting for a defeat.
With all due respect, this comment is unfair on Simon.
Simon was never interested in getting involved in politics in the very first place, but only did so to serve the Nationalist Party.
Whether he chooses or not to contest the coming election is still to be seen.
Kellu jmut Raymond Caruana biex icaqlaq xi haga l-MLP fl-1986. Misskom tisthu.
Kemm ghandu ghalxiex jirringrazzja lil Eddie Fenech Adami dan il-pajjiz. U anke lil Guido.
They want power, power at ANY cost.
Ministers galore, they want. They want the gravy train, and they want to pig out at the trough……and Franco is their man.
Mhux biss kellu jmut Raymond Caruana, imma sahansitra wasslu lill-pajjiz f’xifer gwerra civili qabel ma cedew il-kilba tal-poter.
Simon is great. If only all politicians were like him.
Varist needs to try harder to be more patient and polite with his opponents.
I will never forget the way he attacked Kenneth Wain on live television a few years back. A little taste of things to come?
Let’s put it this way. Saturday evening is not exactly the time when university students are watching Dissett on PBS. The PL sent Evarist Bartolo on a prime time slot that is SAFE for the party.
Back in 1998, when he was Minister of Education, Evarist Bartolo burdened the University students with loans in place of the stipends.
Now, it’s Edward Scicluna who must explain his position about university stipends.
Epic stuff.
The Labour Party’s claim to being a democratic party uninterested in power for its own sake will never gain any traction.
For this to happen, it would have been neccessary for them to have entered parlaiment as the party constitutionally elected to lead, begin immediate work on amending the constitution to prempt a similar perverse result recurring, and having done so, to right away hand over power to the Nationalist Party, which at the time, had majority support.
I really admire Simon Busuttil. He represents what potential candidates should aspire to. He is diligent, smart and consistent in whatever he says or does.
Best of all, he is honest.
This clip restored my faith in the Mother Rock.
I was beginning to think it was all about Renato and Mary Rose Mallia, because that’s all we ever see from Malta in Mississauga, Ontario.
SImon Busuttil is what we would call a lawyer’s lawyer. I may not always agree with him, but he is what the rest of us aspire to be. Please clone him as fast as you can. If nothing else, to drown out the noise from DR II-C.
Varist is a rude, horrible man with not a chip on his shoulder but a boulder.
Evarist Bartolo wishes certain ‘slogans’ were swept away. Isn’t that what Alfred Sant tried to do?
Simon for PM when Dr Gonzi decides to call it a day.
Brilliant arguments by lawyers make brilliant lawyers, not great leaders.
