At last, I’m no longer the only one calling Jeffrey a bloody idiot in public, rather than behind his back

MP’S COMMENTS ARE ‘CHILDISH AND FOOLISH’ – TURKISH MINISTER

Nationalist MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando’s statements on Turkey not being culturally European are “childish and foolish”, according to Turkey’s chief EU negotiator.

Once a country fulfils all criteria, there should be no reason for not being accepted

In Malta for a two-day visit last week, European Affairs Minister and chief negotiator Egemen Bagis told The Sunday Times (see interview on opposite page) Turkey was trying to join the EU and “not a union of Christians”.

“If this gentleman thinks Malta is a member of a Christian club he is wrong. There are tens of millions of Muslims living in EU member states, including Malta,” Mr Bagis said.

In any case, Jeffrey is wrong about our parliament and Turkish accession. In the same news report:

Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee has adopted a bi-partisan approach to the Turkish issue, according to its chairman Francis Zammit Dimech. This position was reaffirmed during a meeting with Mr Begis. “Jeffrey (Pullicino Orlando) is entitled to his opinion but the Foreign Affairs Committee has adopted a bi-partisan position in favour of Turkey’s accession provided it satisfies all EU accession criteria at the end of the negotiating process,” Dr Zammit Dimech said.

Dan it-Tork fiex jifhem! (I hope that my comment is taken as a cynical response to my colleague Jeffrey.)

As a dentist, Jeffrey tells his patients to open wide. As a representative of his constituency and a party representative, he should keep his shut, unless he has something positive and intelligent to say.

“but the Foreign Affairs Committee has adopted a bi-partisan position in favour of Turkey’s accession provided it satisfies all EU accession criteria” means that JPO is an isolated ass.

Jeffrey seems to be competing with Franco for the limelight. Both are hopelessly doing much harm.

Wow – the little twerp is going to become famous in Turkey now.

    Jeff, you are absolutely hilarious.

The best comment uip to now is the one where Jeff is told to keep his mouth shut

‘Go into the Exchange in London, that place more venerable than many a court, and you will see representatives of all the nations assembled there for the profit of mankind. There the Jew, the Mahometan, and the Christian deal with one another as if they were of the same religion, and reserve the name of infidel for those who go bankrupt.’ – Voltaire

I wonder if JPO actually thought of what the EU (in its current state) could offer to Turkey, a country that can emerge economically stronger than most EU states presently are.

All these young politicians! One would have thought they would be more technical, more educated, of an improved calibre (just like a child who is brought up and raised by loving parents to be better off in the future).

Sadly, they are taking this country back to the pits, and for young adults like myself, they are really spoiling our future with such shenanigans and theatrical shows. I really don’t know how else to put it, but opening local papers saddens me more and more each day.

[Daphne – Just a note: JPO isn’t young. He’s pushing 50. People used to be grandparents at that age, and very often are today.]

Egemen Bagis’ address to another island supporting Turkey’s EU membership aspirations.

  9. Farrugia says:

It is not JPO who is childish but Turkey and its government for not recognising national guilt for the Armenian genocide.

Many people in Europe think that Turkey acts like a regional bully. One can only look at the invasion of Cyprus and the ensuing political impasse. If I had to choose between a bully and someone childish, I would go for the latter.

  10. Angus Black says:

The Prime Minister this morning cautioned Joseph “not to tarnish Malta’s reputation” built over two decades.

He inadvertently forgot to include JPO and Franco Debono in the same admonishment.
