Franco – dejjem fejn jaqbillu

In The Times today:

Nationalist backbencher Franco Debono has stressed his call for a separation of the roles of judicial and inquiring magistrates.

I have another, far more pertinent, recommendation to make about the justice system and conflict of interest. Malta needs to separate the roles of legislator and law practitioner, and not permit a person to be both.

Like Franco.

There could be no doubt about a serious conflict of interest when the same lawyer frees clients (who had even pleaded guilty to crimes) on the strength of technical loopholes in laws that he was duty bound to prevent when wearing the hat of a member of parliament.protecting the rest of society.

If I were Dr. Gonzi, I would send him to rot in hell, but he can’t afford that, due to the one-seat majority.

Dr. Debono is a total jerk. Can you imagine if he was a celebrity? Dan mhu xejn bicca village politician u jara n-nies ta’ fuqu dubbien, ahseb u ara kieku jaghtih kariga.

Do you think that the Nationalist Party will let him stand on its ticket at the next general election? It should, because that’s the only way the electorate can let him know what it thinks of him. If he isn’t allowed to contest, he will go down thinking that it’s because they stopped him, and not because his constituents are disgusted by him.

Some teacher on Franco’s Form IIC report told him to “keep it up”. Tghid hadu litteralment?

I completely agree with Valerie Borg that we have had too much of Franco Debono. Normally, I do not agree with this Valletta contributor to The Times; but today she hit the nail on the head.
