PARTY DEMOCRATIC CREDENTIALS
By Franco Debono
Ever since I introduced the term “oligarchy” in Maltese political jargon, not only have people become fully aware of its existence, nature and dangers but it also started to be dismantled thus moving back to full democracy. However, more political, constitutional and justice reforms are required to eradicate its nefarious symptoms and establish meritocracy.
More than three weeks after Parliament exercised its supremacy and right to scrutinise the Administration and passed a verdict of no confidence in former Justice and Home Affairs Minister, after I voted twice with the government, after the Prime Minister defended my contribution as parliamentary assistant, after various Nationalist MPs declared that my justice motion (presented a month before that of the opposition) should have been debated prior to Labour’s and after the Prime Minister declared the chapter closed, like a bolt from the blue, the executive committee of the Nationalist Party issued a condemnation in my regard and two other MPs.
Unfortunately, not much has been written about the issues I raised, which are fundamental to a healthy democracy, with the space taken over by superficial arguments and outright baseless gossip. A lot was said about gentlemanly behaviour and party loyalty.

Can’t wait for a Labour victory in order to see these three buffoons out of the limelight and to see Joseph and co have to deal with the reality of running the country.
[Daphne – Jeffrey won’t be out of the limelight under Labour. He will be well within it. That’s the point.]
I, on the other hand, can wait a lifetime.
Honestly, three buffoons without any real power are better, much better, than 35+ buffoons with loads of power.
The price of getting rid of one/two of them is far too high and far-reaching to be awaited with any degree of eagerness. I look forward to Labour in government like I look forward to a painful bout of piles.
If this were a game of monopoly, I would be very happy to sit back and watch Labour make a real mess of things, but this isn’t a game you can fold away and stack back in the cupboard when you’ve had enough.
Kif jghid il-Malti – “l-imgienen mhux ta’ Frankuni qeghdin”.
Ghalekk it-tabella thares il-barra.
Barf. Kick them out of the party, and call an election.
His writing is only slightly better than that of Luciano what’sisface.
‘Better’ being a strictly and entirely relative term in this case.
Maybe I should have said ‘less unreadable’.
Jeffrey may well be in the limelight but he will not be constantly holding a gun at the PM’s head.
Shouldn’t we be looking forward to booting the one holding the gun rather than removing the one the traitor’s aiming at?
He will be licking Joseph Muscat’s shoe sole instead, with Carmen whipping him on his ass.
Quote ‘oligarchy……it also started to be dismantled thus moving back to full democracy’.
Not true at all Franco. It is associated with you.
Yes kick them out now, publish all their stinking correspondence and call an election.
I think Franco, Jesmond and Jaffrey have inadvertently gone a long way towards bringing many disgruntled Nationalists back to the fold.
It will be fun to watch Joseph’s smug expression morph into something less smug if the PN actually won the next election – or at the very least to watch him age if he ends up with a one-seat majority.
Whatever the outcome of the general election, the 3 buffoons will arrive at their final destination: oblivion.
At the moment they’re flying at speed towards that destination. It would be great for the PN to win this election but the result is irrelevant for them. It’s pretty much like the destination of the 2 planes that headed into the Twin Towers. Whichever storey they hit was really of no importance.
