Is Luciano Busuttil really this insanely stupid?

Published: June 28, 2012 at 10:02am

Richard Cachia Caruana was present at the finance minister’s press conference announcing that the European Commission has accepted Malta’s rescue package deal for Air Malta, against the considerable odds.

Of course he was present. He was instrumental in making that happen.

The Labour Party’s reaction? Not ‘Oh great, now we can save Air Malta instead of having it go under like so many other airlines’ but ‘What was RCC doing there?’

Do these insanely up-themselves individuals even know what it means to put Malta’s interests before their own? I see that they are still in the business of serving the party before serving the country.

They are beyond belief.

Just read this unbelievably, incredibly stupid Luciano Busuttil Tweet (shown here above – left-click to read it). How in heaven’s name did this man get a law degree?

His thinking and language are still firmly rooted in the now-mythical Form IIC.

But what do you expect from a pea-brain like Luciano Bussittil.

  2. La Redoute says:

    Taking merits = jiehu l-prosit.

I thought language proficiency was essential to the professions.

    • Marie says:

I don’t think its only lack of language proficiency.

He just could not be bothered to construct his sentence properly due to the submerged contempt in which he holds those who agree with him, and vote for him.

As a Labour “sophisticate” he feels sure that the great unwashed would not understand a word like kudos, for example.

    • Jozef says:

4 what? an electoral plan that is still a mystery?

    • Mister says:

Seriously… typing ‘for’ instead of ‘4’ takes so much of his time?

Too busy, Dr Luciano Busuttil? afk gtp wyt?

Away from Keyboard, Off to Parliament, Wasting your time ?

    • yor/malta says:

The bar is getting lower and lower. It is a pity that these nuts drag others of the same profession down with them

  3. john says:

Really, Daphne, it’s about time you stopped marveling at how these people got a law degree. You know perfectly well that this course attracts and produces much of the dregs of the university.

    Imma dawn bis-serjeta?

  5. mattie says:

Seems like a degree didn’t do anything for them. Sad.

    @busuttilluciano

Is he one of ‘those’ who sign his surname before his first name too?

  8. Jackie says:

I see Luciano Busuttil daily, and always wondered where I knew his face. I had no idea who he was, although he looked vaguely familiar.

He is nothing like his Facebook profile picture in person, and is more akin to an overfed waddling duck (no wonder he drives a big car!), always smiling inanely, to boot.

  9. John Schembri says:

I always thought that Richard Cachia Caruana never liked the limelight. But now that he has resigned he has more time on his hands.

It was thanks to him together with others to convince the EU to let Air Malta to have the necessary help from the government.

It is indeed sad to throw away good people like him, who brought good results for our country.

Now it has become clearly obvious why JPO opposed the St John’s Cathedral Museum project which was the fruit of Richard Cachia Caruana’s hard work.

Will our drunk knight in rusty armour oppose Air Malta’s also?

Pullicino Orlando’s interest was to make a €1.7 million profit from his Mistra disused (zdingata) land and Cachia Caruana’s interest was to give a fitting showcase for the Saint John’s tapestries at an 80% discount in the name of a non profit organisation, which would only have benefited Malta.

  10. Frank says:

Richard Cachia Caruana’s biggest fault is that like Mersault he is different, and perceived to be a threat by lesser minds.

  11. Frank says:

What astonishes me however, is that the lesser minds got their way.

  12. ciccio says:

These “insanely up-themselves individuals” like Luciano Sogno desperately need a rescue package to protect them from themselves.
The big unknow is how far up themselves they can go.

  13. Angus Black says:

Why doesn’t Luciano tell us who Labour’s preferred replacement for RCC happens to be?

    • La Redoute says:

They don’t have one. Their main point was to force him out.

He resigned, but not because their accusations were correct, or even because he actually had to, given that ambassadors are not accoutable to parliament and cannot be removed by parliament.

The bitter irony of Labour’s hollow victory is that Cachia Caruana resigned because of personal and professional qualities that Labour can never recognise, let alone enjoy.

      • ciccio says:

“Their main point was to force him out.”

This is exactly like what they are trying to do to the current government – “iwaqqghu il-gvern imbaghad naraw” – as Adrian Vassallo had said. They have no idea what they would be doing, or how, if they are elected.

      • La Redoute says:

Why would they bother with what they’re going to do when in power? The whole point is being in power – l-importanti ikollok il-pozizzjoni.

It’s a common affliction among self-serving people who lack a sense of identity and self-esteem – position is the be-all and end-all. To hell with results.

  14. Yves Cali says:

He’s just plane stupid and before someone jumps up to correct me, I know it should read ‘plain’ but we are writing about an airline here.

Incidentally according to Malta Today the pope is going to Warsaw to watch tonight’s match – ‘Pope Benedict XVI to remain ‘impartial’ on Germany-Italy match, as preparations said to be underway for Bavarian Pontiff to follow tonight’s crucial semi-final in Warsaw.’

Can no reporter write decent English anymore? In my day we had ‘O’ levels – now all papers seem to share ‘low’ levels.

  15. Miss O'Brien says:

I think that is a rhetorical question, Daphne.

  16. silverbug says:

I really admire Richard Cachia Caruana’s composure. I think I would have shown everyone the middle finger a long time ago.

  17. Fido says:

During the MLP Golden Years, there was a board put up when there were the works for the extension of the runway. It read:

    TIDHOLX. PROPJETA TAK-POPLU MALTI

It was a time when the terms “il-poplu Malti”, “Malta”, “il-Gvern” and “il-Partit Laburista” were conveniently interchangeable and interpreted to mean the very same thing.

This was, and still is, the attitude of tal-Lejber.

“Fl-interess ta’ JM” = “Interess tal-Lejber” = “Interess ta’ Malta”.

So why do you feel surprised by the behaviour of tal-lejber?

Isn’t it in the interest of Joseph to topple the government? Hence according to their distorted logic, isn’t this in the interest of Malta?

So why should one feel taken aback that they insist that RCC should not continue with the critical negotiations regarding the EU Budget?

Who cares if it fails and we lose the chance of having hundreds of millions pouring into our economy from the EU? Wouldn’t they try to project this as if it were to be a GonziPN failure? Wouldn’t this mean that JM would stand to gain?

These are the people who want us to believe their mantra “Malta l-ewwel u qabel kollox.

    They are so hollow.

  18. Reporter says:

    Yes, he is.

  19. Clifford says:

Ara xi mhuh se jmexxu lil Malta f’dal-maltemp mis-sena d-diehla.

  20. A. Charles says:

Andrea Camilleri in books on Commissario Montalbano uses the phrase describing a very stupid person “testa di Calabrese”; in Maltese parlance it would be “testa di Luciano Busuttil”.

  21. Natalie says:

I suppose Lucian never heard that a good, properly written sentence should have a subject and an object.

Also it is a bit thick coming from Labour accusing someone with having a mystery plan.

  22. C Falzon says:

My immediate reaction on reading the title of this post was “Yes, of course he is”.

Needless to say, reading the actual contents of the post did not change that except that I might append to it “, and some.”

  23. allamana says:

You know what everybody’s afraid of? Of all those things that they do not understand.

Expecting Luciano Busuttil to even begin to fathom how Richard Cachia Caruana operates is like asking a 3 year old to understand the Theory of Relativity and expect a coherent answer.

It is like comparing asinine asses to thoroughbreds. No comparison.

    L-aqwa li gibna degree u l-mammy happy.
