Perhaps Michael Falzon would care to explain? I’ve just found this on YouTube.

One kind of animal he won’t be hunting: l-iljuni tal-bidla.

Shame. Is that called sport? It’s a massacre.

    • el bandido guapo says:

Are you a vegetarian? In which case then I will have to respect your opinion, but beg to differ.

But if not – do you think that farmed animals don’t need to die in order that you may enjoy your steak, chicken, or pork chops?

Before you give us the “ah, farmed, not taken from the wild” mantra – after explaining the difference to the farmed animal that is about to be put down – may I ask whether you eat fish, just to give one example – fish, several species of which have been overfished so extensively that populations have collapsed and ecosystems have assumed a new balance, which in simple terms means that the populations are never expected to recover.

There is nothing wrong with hunting per se – certainly there is everything wrong with unsustainable hunting, but please do not confuse the issues.

      • Alex Zahra says:

Shooting over 200 ducks and other waterfowl is not hunting. It’s a massacre. I’ll choose Carm Mifsud Bonnici over this man any time.

      • Stefan Vella says:

“Hunters” who enjoy shooting a live animal more than the shooting itself should not be allowed to possess or shoot a firearm.

I have no issue with sustainable hunting by the rest of the hunting community, though the latter are usually quite happy shooting clay pigeons.

      • el bandido guapo says:

Alex Zahra – So I assume that the abbatoir handles fewer than 200 animals a day, and that this placates your conscience.

If you have a peek inside any UK sporting shooters magazine, several of which are available locally, you will see many pictures of successful shoots (in the UK) depicting carpets of dead birds displayed in the same manner as in the video above.

Admit it, you are favouring emotion over reason.

As for choosing Carm Mifsud Bonnici over Michael Falzon – what has this got to do with anything?

  3. FootHunting says:

Well at least they didn’t go hungry.

But seriously, what was he thinking? The hunting trip is already questionable in itself, but doesn’t it even occur to him that the footage might not be in his best interest?

Or does he think it IS in his best interest? In other words, screw the environmentalists, it’s the hunters’ vote he’s after.

Is he naive or arrogant? Is either of these a reason to look forward to him running a ministry?

    Is this official Labour policy?

  4. Manuel Camilleri says:

He is not being friendly with them; he’s after their vote.

  5. Joseph Borg says:

Il-kacca hija kacca u mhux qtil esagerat ta’ tajr li huwa impossibbli li tikkonsma.

Nahseb li dawn l’hekk imsejha kaccaturi ghandom bzonn xi ftit lezzjonijiet ta kif jikkaccjaw.

Dawn il-lezzjonijiet jistghu japplikaw ghalihom ghand l-Aborigini.

  6. Tyler says:

Um, what is there to explain? He went on a hunting trip to Argentina…or is he not allowed to?

  7. Alfred Bugeja says:

His table manners can be compared to Fred Flintstone’s.

  8. gel says:

A true socialist, hunting in Argentina. This is besides the many times that he went hunting in Serbia.

  9. Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus says:

The video is revolting from beginning to end but it’s not enough to make me vote PN again if that’s the reason why it was uploaded here. The PN’s favouritism, nepotism, clientelism and institutionalized discrimination is just as revolting.

Some of the PN elite do not mind humiliating those who are indefensible because they enjoy no political protection. Birds are God’s creatures but so are men and women and children and the suffering inflicted on these by politicians who care only for their own and are not squeamish about committing injustice is immense and unforgivable.

Now I expect you and your band of adulators to attack me even as you and they pretend to weep for slaughtered birds.

    • FootHunting says:

This would be a very well written and poignant comment, if bore any relevance to the situation in Malta. But it does not. Unless this man means Malta under Labour in 1983. The author is either delusional or in bad faith.

And it does not detract from the fact that this prospective minister, who may be called upon to set policy on hunting, has declared himself to be an avid hunter, but not only, a hunter of the worst kind, where the largest possible number of birds is taken. Assuming that is the total catch, there must be at least 50 birds each.

It could of course be a blessing in disguise. Perhaps he will do the decent thing and withdraw from any consultations, were he in such a position. But what am I saying, these mores only apply to others.

If Michael Falzon were a believer in doing the decent thing, he would have refused to be Franco Debono & Joseph Muscat’s tool.

    • Lomax says:

C.C.A.G., given that I see no evidence of what you’re claiming here, I would kindly ask you to illuminate me.

More explicitly, I kindly ask you to provide me with proof that this “behaviour” (nepotism and so on) will not take place again (meaning, after what happened in the 70’s and 80’s) if the PL is elected.

Besides, I see nobody mauling you and your arguments. Here we discuss. We do not maul or attack people.

  10. TROY says:

Oh dear, Caligula will still vote for the Malta Labour Party.

Don’t go doing something silly to your mummy now.

  11. Botom says:

Disgraceful to say the least. This is the man behind the motion which ousted Carmel Mifsud Bonnici.

  12. J Abela says:

Oh dear me, he’s quite a hungry little pig, isn’t he.

Argentina has become quite popular with hunters from Malta. They go on managed hunting trips where they hunt for birds that are considered pests.

  13. Frankie Narcono says:

No wonder it was a piece of cake for him sacrificing Carm Mifsud Bonnici.

  14. Lawrence Borg says:

I don’t see what’s there to explain … he went on a hunting trip to a state where hunting is still legal. This in view of the lies told by the Nationalist government prior to the 2003 election that hunting will not be hindered once we joined the EU.

Also, I cannot understand why this would be news at all, seeing that Dr. Falzon never made a secret of his hobbies, i.e. hunting and fireworks. Those who elected him, in both districts (funnily enough one with a staunch Labour core, and another with a staunch Nationalist core) knew of this and did not judge him on it; they only judged him on his political performance and his consistently gentlemanly behaviour towards political allies and rivals alike.

If the Labour Party has a weak link, Dr. Falzon is definitely not one!

[Daphne – What was that I said earlier about how Malta is aien to the spirit which underpins true democracy? You are speaking here, Mr Borg, of somebody vying with former police inspector Anglu Farrugia for a position in the cabinet of government, as minister of home affairs. You are speaking of somebody who just moved successfully to bring down the minister of home affairs. You are speaking of somebody who is a self-avowed socialist, whose party speaks constantly about the dire situation in the country – and who then spends the kind of money which would keep a family in food for a year, taking a hunting trip not to, say, Sicily, but to Argentina. And taking pleasure in killing as many birds as possible, so as to get his money’s worth. I imagine you know nothing of the fuss kicked up by the Spanish press when King Juan Carlos went on a lion-hunting trip to Africa in the midst of the crisis? Of course, you’d say ‘what’s wrong with a hunting trip if he can afford it?’ TACT, Mr Borg – and in Falzon’s case, consistency with one’s arguments.]

  15. marc says:

i posted the video on his fan page on Facebook asking for an explaination, but he deleted it.

  16. David Meilak says:

    Literally sickening.
