Thanks to Jeffrey’s deal with Labour, Carmen’s star is in the ascendent
This, wearing a white dress and sitting just behind Labour leader Joseph Muscat during his public meeting last Sunday, is Carmen Ciantar.
She is the woman who has lived with Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando Smith for some years, and who will marry him in August. She is the reason JPOS waged that divorce war, which was entirely personal and not for the country, provoked by the fact that she wasn’t invited to meet the Pope with him because they’re not married.
Yes, Malta got its divorce legislation out of his personal problems, but this illustrates just how far JPOS is prepared to go in furthering his personal interests.
Carmen Ciantar was raised as a rabid Laburista tal-Macina, in a family of Mintoffjani. In the Labour government of 1996-1998, she was given cosy positions with cabinet minister Louis Buhagiar and later went on to work with the Malta Tourism Authority, in marketing.
She was also a favourite with Karmenu ‘Il-Guy’ Vella, and her advice was sought frequently by Labour leader Alfred Sant, who summoned her to Labour HQ for the purpose.
When she began her relationship with Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando Smith, she at first distanced herself from Labour politics. I got to know of their relationship when I met her at a post-referendum party to celebrate the Yes vote victory.
I was surprised to see her there because I knew her as a Labour girl. “Oh,” she said, “I’m with Jeffrey now.” So that’s all right then.
She then went on to work for Midi plc, marketing Tigne Point apartments, and after that, got a job in marketing with JP Montebello, who have since gone bankrupt, marketing a project called Xemxija Heights, which was to be a complex of apartments on the site of the former Mistra Village, just above the aborted Mistra Bay nightclub. It wasn’t approved by the MEPA.
Now Carmen works in marketing for Yellow Pages, which would explain why Yellow Pages featured prominently in the infamous ‘froga’ billboard put up by Labour to mock the prime minister. I don’t imagine she had her bosses’ consent on that. If not, they should say so.
Carmen Ciantar’s return to the Labour fold over the last couple of years has coincided with JPOS’s increasingly damaging behaviour towards his own party.
At the same time, Carmen’s Labour star has risen. She has progressed from being one among a crowd of hundreds, clapping and cheering Joseph Muscat during Labour conferences, to being formally seated immediately behind and to the right of the Labour leader at his public meetings.
Believe me when I say that she is not used for decorative purposes only.
If she is elected as a candidate, she will be made a cabinet minister. If she is not elected, she will be given the chairmanship of a corporation.
These are the important questions the press should be asking both the Labour leader and his drunken associate, Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando Smith: when they struck their deal, what was in it for Carmen Ciantar?

Today’s contribution by JPOS in the national interest is as folows:…
“I would like the Executive Committee of our party to consider the expulsion of Mr. Richard Cachia Caruana from the PN, for the following reasons:
1. Colluding with high ranking members of the Labour administration led by Dr. Alfred Sant between 1996 and 1998 in an attempt to further his personal interests whilst putting his colleagues in the Nationalist administration led by Dr. Eddie Fenech Adami between 1987 and 1996 in a bad light.
My Comment: Remove the names and the dates, JPOS, and perhaps you’ll get the irony of it.
2. Colluding with high ranking officials representing foreign states in a clear attempt at bypassing the Nationalist Party parliamentary group and the Maltese Parliament.
My Comment: Hello? were you even attending the Committee? You believe that only because envy blinds you and interest deafens you.
3. Fomenting the unrest which has led to the difficulties being faced by our leader, Dr Lawrence Gonzi, both within our party and in Parliament.
My Comment: Do you have a mirror?
Finally, JM has said that the country needs certainaty that the PM has parliamentary support. Gut feelin tells me, and I hope I am wrong that before Summer Recess, JPOS may cross over given last week’s games.
Why would someone in sales leave Midi plc to work for a much smaller outfit trying to get a permit?
Wasn’t Montebello the same contractor who made false allegations about Tonio Fenech?
Were they really false?
I’m only asking.
They enroll a subcontractor to carry out works telling him it’s a favour. Yeah right.
Meantime everything they try goes belly up. Tort tal-ministru ghax ma’ tahomx il-permess, msieken. Ara Joseph mhux hekk, dak ihobbna.
Well Silvio, you know very well they were FALSE. Why do you have doubts about it? I must say some people never stop being jealous.
Here’s the above mentioned billboard. Let’s admire the ‘fantastic’ photo-editing skills of the elves.

So she’s the peroxide blonde just below sleepy joe in the martian green top.
Daphne, you were at a post-referendum party to celebrate the Yes vote victory.
Carmen was there to celebrate her Partnership victory with Orlando Shit.
I wonder what the Labour Party will give JPOS as a wedding present ?
Free membership in AA – he bloody well needs it and more.
How, may I ask, knowing all this, did the Nationalist Party accept Jeffrey Pullicino as a candidate in the first place, despite the Pullicinos being traditionally Nationalist.
They have got to do some serious soul-searching, and thoroughly vet those they entrust into their fold, in every nook and cranny, and not just directly within the party.
I agree with you, Grezz – what you just said makes sense.
He is so out of this world that probably he will also invite Dr Gonzi to his wedding.
And if he invites all Labour MPs he would have to invite his ex wife (who I don’t blame any more for leaving him).
What a farce. Pity he cannot marry in church with full pomp.
Fl-ahhar, JPO sab kappell li jigih fil-persuna ta’ Carmen Ciantar.
Ha naraw kemm sejrin jibqghu flimkien wara Awwissu.
Kollox mahdum bizzilla.
