And while we’re at it, I’d like to debunk the urban legend, repeated in this broadcast, that Jason Micallef is known as Il-King because he’s top man at Super One.

People of my generation (the mittilaged) know exactly why Jason is Il-King. This is the reason: a 1970s television hero, who was REALLY big in Malta, called…Jason King.

    I doubt whether there was a single Maltese Jason in Malta before that TV series.

    Ta’ Friday the 13th ukoll kien jismu Jason. His surname wasn’t King but by a strange coincidence, that of the leading actress was. Now I’m off for a swim.

    Yes, Riff Raff, there were several. The first lot were named after the hero in Jason and the Argonauts, one of the flood of No Brain/All Muscle films in the cinemas more than a decade before Jason King came on the TV scene.
