For once, I believe Jason Micallef

Malta Today reports, buried somewhere within its crazy story about how a PN official gave the Labour Party the Mistra contract three days before the last general election:

Jason Micallef, the former Labour secretary-general who was the first to get the details on the Mistra permit, had told this newspaper that the Labour Party’s source was not a PN official.

Errrr, maybe I’m confused here. But shouldn’t Jason be taken far more seriously here than the ramblings of a former Nationalist minister now out in the cold and suggesting that it was all his evil rival Gonzi’s doing?

Weighing both claims, one by Jason some time back and the newer version that attributes the leaking of the contract to a PN official, wouldn’t the (M)LP have scored higher on the eve of an election had it come out with the second version then, meta il-ftira kienet taħraq u l-kanuni kien kollha jisparaw full blast?

This shows that the present claim has only been concocted for convenience.

Is this the second time this week that you’re agreeing with Jason King?

You’d better watch out. At this rate, he’ll be knocking on your door soliciting your No. 1 at the general election.

The Murder at Mistra: One can truly say that the greatest political assassination of recent history in the Malta Labour Party has taken place on the disco land at Mistra.

Some saw that land as an opportunity to set up a discotheque and make some money. Others saw it as an opportunity to become Prime Minister at 39.

The more I see this unfolding the more the messy Muscat PL is emerging.

Muscat wants to become the youngest prime minister.

The only obstacle he had was Dr. Alfred Sant.

The only way to remove Dr. Sant from head of the party was by making Dr. Sant lose the election.

The Mistraleaks story is showing that Muscat used this to get Dr. Sant out of the way.

Now he has only to use his organisation to do the same to the PN.

Well, Mintoff did the same to Boffa, and history tends to repeat itself.

Oh, it does make sense – Jason Versus Joseph boxing match will soon be on. Jason spearheaded by Mintoff’s right hand man or strategist, he is only to happy to state it.

Ah, but read Jason’s version in italics.

It does not mention the word ‘contract’ but instead it refers to a ‘permit’ and it follows that a copy of the permit could be obtained elsewhere, say, MEPA? Doesn’t a Labour MP sit on the MEPA Board?

MEPA issues a permit, period. The contract spelled out terms, compensation, etc. and that is what Sant was presumed to have had in his possession.

The crux of the matter, if indeed we believe that in fact Sant had THE original signed copy, is WHERE did that contract come from? File copies are not signed.

The deeper one digs, the more the finger points in one direction.
