This is a good time to bring back this song

To all the Junior Mintoffjani raving about how great Mintoff was: this song was played on STATE TELEVISION REPEATEDLY after the perverse 1981 general election.

Lovely. And your parents voted for them. Mhux ta’ b’xejn hrigtu hekk.

U l-istess wahda li kienet idoqqha issa qeghda taghmel programm fuq in-Net TV ‘Don’t stop me now’. Ma nahsibx li Mintoff kien iqum filgodu jghidilha xi ddoqq….. Pinnuri juzaw il-partiti biex jigwadanjaw huma…. U dawn hawn hafna minnhom tafx!!!

How sick can they be? For me Mintoff destroyed a whole mentality and it will take years to get fixed.

I could never forget that song, and will always associate it with Eileen Montesin.

Ironically, while One TV was showing a live transmission of Mintoff’s 6+ hour-long funeral cortege, she was joking around with participants in a quiz on Net TV.

Here’s another song I’ll always associate with Labourites singing “il-maggoranza kolla fniek”:

Ghandikun, Fenech Adami nesa’ dawk iz-zminijiet.

I suggest you listen to PBS, with an objective ear. People now are much more educated, and things are more subtle, but sometimes PBS is more pro PN than NET or 101.

  7. Miskujn says:

Lovely. And sadly, more than thirty years have passed and no one was ever brought to justice for this example of horrible misuse of public broadcasting. So no one really learnt a lesson from this. Why was this never really investigated?

  8. Tony Agius says:

Yes I do remember those days , and I HAVE SOME MARKS ON MY BACK THAT WILL NEVER LET ME FORGET, and one of the neighbours use to leave a cassette all day long with this and the other one (“ma taghmlu xejn mal-perit Mintoff” ) and all the brainwashing, and we had to move to another town because my wife suffered from a breakdown because of that.

  9. Wied id-dmugh says:

And run the rabbit did. With 3 consecutive victories in 1981, 1987 and 1992.

and 1998 too….EFA the real salvatur ta’ Malta

and referendum and elections in 2003…halli hadd ma jinsa min hu il-king tal-politika Maltija

kieku naqilbu ix xaqliba u immorru fin 1971 u intrebhet lelezzjoni mil pn tahseb dak lakwist li ghamel mintof fsittax il sena wara li telqu linglizi kien jakwistom fenech adami ghaliex il gid li halla mintoff inholoq mix xejn ta

  10. Maurice says:

Could not have said it better, with all these brainwashed new generation of “Mintuffjani” saying he was the saviour. Thank God we still had general elections, because what he really wanted was to turn us into puppets like Kim Il Sung’s.

  11. xmun says:

Pity that The Times in all its eulogies forgot to write one sentence about ‘Black Monday’ – or all is forgotten now?

This opinion piece written last May should also be remembered

  12. Mario Farrugia says:

even the young ‘Nazjonalisti’ seem to be nostalgic about the historic MINTOFF days. About tal-Barrani they seem not to be comprehending because Eddie was not even scratched – so what’s the fuzzzzzzz.

  13. OK says:

Imbaghad jigi dak il-buffu Franco Debono jghid li x-xandir pubbliku tal-lum aghar minn dak iz-zmien. Jien niftakarha cara din tindaqq, Remig Sacco u shabu jbiddlu l-ingravata ghal wahda hamra u l-arma tal-labour fuq l-iskrijn bl-innu tal-labour ghaddej. Dan kollu meta Mintoff mhux talli ma riedx jaghti permess lill-PN jiftah stazzjon tar-radju u TV imma talli waqqa’ ghac-cajt lil Eddie u beda jghidlu din kienet cajta.

  14. asshole-dcg says:

Best song ever!! Fuck you PN

  15. Claude Sciberras says:

Its a pity you don’t have the actual Xandir Malta footage as some might not even believe.

Whoever tries to diminish the importance and gravity of what happened at tal-Barrani has no idea what freedom is all about and deserves a prime minister like Mintoff.

  16. Claude Sciberras says:

P.S. How ironic… grand Mass for Mintoff, and Mintoff in suit and tie.

I put up these songs on my facebook wall this week. I got some wonderful comments too. I thought the muppet show version of run rabbit run was more appropriate this week.

Another song I found fulfilling to hear from the good old 80’s was reasons to be cheerful part 3 by Ian Drury and the blockheads

    Enjoy
