On trial for producing a play without state authorisation

Just a little reminder that when this sort of thing happens in an undemocratic country, it makes the international news. But when it happens in Malta – remember the recent controversies? – it does not.

Because the international news agencies can’t square this kind of madness with an EU member state.

    The problem in Uganda is not whether it is democratic or not (elections have been held there in the last years) but the fact that homosexual activity is a criminal offence and in Uganda subject to harsh punishment . Many African countries have similar albeit less severe laws.
