I take it therefore it is not OK to be gay in Mellieha but perfectly acceptable to attempt murder there.

Might we also assume that violent reactions are also directly proportional to the ‘remoteness’ and size of the village? What would be permissible for a Bahrija resident? Or for Għarb? The mind does boggle.

I don’t know, but I’ll keep my gaze lowered when I pass Daphne in Bidnija. Wouldn’t want to get charged for rape or something.

The Ghaxaq capon was holding court on ONE (again?!) tonight.

At the end of the show I was wondering wether the Panto season was already with us or else, the silly season was still in full swing.

  3. Interested Bystander says:

Is it so blatantly obvious that only ‘traitors’ go on ONE tv?

  4. Jozef says:

Imagine if it was Hal Ghaxaq. But then, the observation would have been put forward by the defence in the first place.

  5. La Redoute says:

Is this a legal precedent? If we feel provoked by Magistrate Peralta’s judgement are we now free to mow him down?

i cannot begin to comprehend what the hell possessed our judiciary: 60 euro fine imposed on four apes for assaulting a peaceful protester, a mother imprisoned because her 17 year old son refused to visit his father and now this: a homophobe being given a slap on the wrist for causing serious permanent injuries by deliberately running somebody over, because he had been ‘provoked’ by the suggestion that he is gay? ‘

    What a travesty.

  8. anthony says:

    Moral of the story.

If you need to wallop someone do it in Mellieha.

That will save you 60 Euros.

The current state of affairs in the highest institutions of the land warrants the maxim :

    Il-huta minn rasha tinten.

This magistrate has recently been waffling on about people turning up late, blah di blah, you know, pissing in the wind.

My guess is that he has given up being the lone voice in the wilderness and decided if you can’t beat them, join them.

    • Apolitical citizen says:

One cannot help but wondering why this magistrate has been waffling on and on about our law courts delay, justice, etc.

Wasn’t he the one who refused to disclose how many pending cases he had in his hands before he went to Kosovo, while the majority of his colleagues complied with the then justice minister?

If I remember correctly, that minister was Austin Gatt.

It never ceases to amaze me how hypocritical some people can be.

Living in Kosovo did not help at all

Is this the prelude to every one of us having different judicial treatment according to which town or village we live in? The mind boggles at such a thought.

Hillbillies at either end and tal-pepe fin-nofs…

  12. elephant says:

Pity our legal system has lowered itself so much that I think it cannot sink further.
