Debilitating ignorance

New Europe has broken the news that one of Sweden’s MEPs has been caught selling snus to Swedes in Brussels.

I wonder where New Europe, which seems to be establishing a pattern of cooperation with John Dalli, got the story.

timesofmalta.com have carried a report on New Europe’s report, and beneath it, the usual Useful Tools are out in force, saying that this MEP should be made to resign like Dalli was, two weights two measures, it’s all about clout, Malta is small and Sweden is not.

How exhausting. As somebody pointed out to them on the same comments-board: “It seems some people here are unable to distinguish between selling small amounts of an illegal tobacco product and asking for a EUR60 million bribe to change the law.”

I would add that they can’t distinguish between a member of the European Parliament and an EU Commissioner, either.

    I admire your tenacity.

Day after day you trawl through the mire to bring us nuggets.

  2. Francis Saliba says:

Most people are perfectly able to distinguish between someone “selling small amounts of illegal tobacco” in the street or in some private residence and an MEP doing the same thing on such a scale that he has to use a refrigerator inside an office of the European Union.

It still shows a double standard though even if the young Swede is a lowly MEP. I guess being a snow white northerner of the bloodline of the Great White Brotherhood carries special privileges that southern swarthy wogs are not trusted and bestowed with.

  4. Daphne: Are you saying then, that John Dalli WAS AN ACCOMPLICE with Silvio Zammit’s asking for €60 million bribe from Swedish Match ?

[Daphne – He is definitely an accomplice. He is the one who brought him into the equation and gave him access. Whether he was part of the demand for 60 million euros is unclear. He may have been. He may not have been. That isn’t quite the point, though, is it.]
