Hear hear.
Thanks for posting this clip.
Hearing Rowan Atkinson’s speech, I now understand why we do not have intelligent comedians in Malta or, to put it bluntly, we do not have any comedians.
I take it that you mean – no official comedians.
Do we have a Section5 or similar over here?
[Daphne – We have the same law under the catch-all of the maintenance of public order and the public peace. And we also have criminal defamation, which Britain does not.]
Yes we do, but our version is called ‘Section IIc’.
It is closer to abolition, not reform.
We don’t need criminal defamation in Britain, we have developed thick skins, something that certain people in Malta should have also, namely John Dalli.
But will they understand this wit?
For Mintoffjani and their fellow travellers this is all Double Dutch.
Maybe someone could obtain a hard copy of the speech, translate it to Maltese and mail copies to Joseph and Franco.
‘looking at me in a funny way’ . . . is that a joke, for real, did someone tell him that’s Maltese history?
Fits like a glove, doesn’t it?
Yes, well. Remember that Stefan Frendo was arrested for giving ‘funny looks’ at some socialist minister back in the 70s, whilst giving a speech at a graduation ceremony, if I’m not mistaken.
So yes, when you all go and vote, remember that under the Labour Party just looking at someone was a crime, let alone saying something.
Rowan Atkinson is brilliant – makes me proud to be an anglophile – but the memories evoked by his mentioning the ‘looking at me in a funny way’ (at 2.29) more than tempered my amusement.
