How old is Franco, again? Seventeen?

Published: October 9, 2012 at 8:05pm

He thinks he is a rebel, because some newspaper writers, whose knowledge of the language is sorely inadequate, have chosen to describe him as ‘rebellious’ rather than as the far more accurate ‘recalcitrant’.

Debono is not rebellious. He is recalcitrant.

He also thinks that his behaviour is “stylish and elegant”. Where he got this idea is anyone’s guess, but he should know that you cannot buy style and elegance off the rails at a men’s clothier.

A part of style and elegance is knowing how to construct a proper sentence and spell the words within it. It is knowing that there is no such word as inexistent, that the use of that particular word is a lower-middle-class Maltese error, and that the word is non-existent (with a hyphen).

Where I come from, the sort of behaviour displayed by this man is as far from style and elegance as is humanly possible. It is, in fact, considered the absolute height of vulgarity. Hence my use of an expression that I am ordinarily reluctant to employ: that breeding most inevitably will out.

————–

Here is Franco Debono’s latest piece of style and elegance. He quite obviously believes himself to be Robespierre.

There are no rights but just favours at the pleasure of the TYRANT
Total submissiveness to authority is not high class.
IT IS DECADENCE
In the current state of constitutional decadence, where the is complete ministerial unaccountability, palriament is practically inexistent and justice and home affairs need a radical overhaul now is the time to express my thanks to those who have been branding me as a REBEL.
Where the system of power has degenerated into an Oligarchy, and where government has no intention of respecting Parliament the one should be proud of not being submissive, but being a REBEL.
In fights for democracy rebels are the heroes. The rest is decadence.
When democracy is threatened it is stylish and elegant to be a REBEL

    Move over Emmy Bezzina.

And what’s wrong with decadence? It gave the world its heritage.

  2. Yanika says:

He’s got as much style as this guy:

The difference between these two guys however, is that at least Clinton Paul admits that he’s a freak, whereas Franco does not.

  3. bookworm says:

He surely is a rebel, without a cause.

X’cwiec huma Batman, Iron Man and Superman? We now have Form2man, the Rebel Avenger.

  5. Danni says:

Seriously, is this guy for real? He stills thinks in terms of the classroom rebel. And he almost certainly wasn’t one when he was at school. Maybe he’s making up for lost time.

  6. jae says:

The main issue here is not style.

The issue here is that this man is crazy. With every day that passes, he further confirms it with the rubbish that he writes in his blog, especially when the font and point size grows larger and smaller like an internet version of a kidnapper’s note, and when he writes about himself.

    Rebel, my ass.

  7. Mark camilleri says:

He might be a rebel, rebelling against himself because he did not manage to achieve what his colleagues did.

  8. Ian says:

Make a bet The Times will start referring to him as recalcitrant now.

  9. Instead of your fixation on writing 100% grammatically correct English, wouldn’t it be better if you concentrate more on writing arguments free of personal jibes, insults and vitriol ?
