More lies – Labour had better drop him, whatever it is that he’s got over them (but then Labour loves a liar)
So last week we found out that John Dalli had lied to camera when he said that he had gone to the police to report that his email had been hacked and to request an investigation.
The Police Commissioner, in a written reply to a question by Bondi+ (strange how it never occurred to any of us to check before) said that Dalli had not made any such report.
Yesterday he claimed, in an interview with that charlatan Matthew Vella, editor of Malta Today, that he had sent Silvio Zammit a ‘cease and desist’ judicial letter in August.
I didn’t believe it for a moment. If he had sent any such letter, he would have brandished a copy during his interview, as he did with that email which he cut out of a string of correspondence.
And Malta Today would have had a copy and would have reproduced it ad infinitum.
Matthew Vella must have felt like a right puppet, having to take Dalli’s word for it when he probably didn’t believe him either.
I said that I hoped journalists would go to the Court Registry this morning and look for that judicial letter, so that we would know conclusively whether this is yet another lie.
And this morning some journalists did. TVM has reported that there is no judicial letter from John Dalli to Silvio Zammit.

Why did Malta Today not have Saviour Balzan interview John Dalli, rather than Matthew Vella?
Is Saviour ashamed to appear next to the Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy of Portomaso?
Paraventi, bhal ta’ Joseph Muscat.
Is this man a pathological liar or what?
1) Who in his right mind says that he sent a judicial letter when he did not?
2) He claims he lodged a police report about his emails being hacked and the Police Commissioner says in writing that it isn’t true.
3) He is informed that he is under investigation by OLAF and he sits pretty hoping it will blow away, while saying nothing to the prime minister.
4) He is forced to resign/sacked and then he sends a letter signed off as Commissioner Health and Consumer Affairs.
What next? Sending MEPs a copy of his Form II report to show them kemm hu tifel biezel u kapaci?
It’s his house of cards.
Someone else insisted his computer had been hacked as well. Oh dear.
It had better be a mid-term report card from another grade than Form IIc. He has already been outdone by Franco Debono in that respect.
He’ll probably have a canned response for these.
1. He’ll say that what he meant was a legal letter (as in one sent by a lawyer) and he’ll say that to him this is the same thing.
2. He’ll say that he did report to the Police Commissioner but given that he didn’t have enough evidence it was impossible for the police to follow it up.
3. I don’t think he was sitting pretty. He knew very well that this wouldn’t go all away and though he was taken by surprise by the President, I think it was only that he was surprised by the when rather than the what. He seems to have been prepared (as well as he could have been) for this moment as he acted pretty quickly.
4. That is part of his strategy to continue fudging the issue. This being that he never resigned so that in his mind he still is Commissioner.
The fact that this behaviour of his continues to hurt and damage the office of Commissioner immensely while he presses on regardless, is quite telling of the self-serving and egocentric individual he is.
The man simply doesn’t care. I mean, I never quite liked the man, never really trusted him, as he would come off as rather slimy, but I would have never thought that he could be so disgusting.
Nevertheless, the signs were always there I suppose – from the turbulent ’80s at Dar Centrali.
Shame on Dalli.
Does Dalli really think that nobody is going to check what he says? Now more than ever.
He makes a big deal of the fact that the Tobacco Products Directive will be delayed because of his resignation but does not say that it has already been delayed twice.
The proposal was supposed to come out in 2011 but was postponed for early 2012. In February 2012 it was again postponed to October. Why? Could Dalli have been waiting for the outcome of the ‘negotiations’ with the tobacco industry?
“a right puppet” – I believe the vernacular is “a right james” as in blunt = rhyming slang.
I suggest the next interviewer asks Dalli to wear a paper bag on his head and to remove it only when he is about to tell a truth.
Jesus wept.
What an embarrassment. If this guy has any decency left (if he had any in the first place, which I am beginning to doubt), he would dig a small tiny little hole, enough for him to fit in, crawl inside and get someone to fill it in.
Tell him that if he stays there for a while we will get him all the millions he wants, without having to make a whore out of himself.
Better safe than sorry.
In Italian Lire.
Dalli is behaving like one of those blokes who can’t accept that his girlfriend has finished with him.
Do you blame him?
May I suggest that his brother Dun Dalli and Fader Gordon pray for him.
Perhaps they should organise a pilgrimage of prayer starting from Hal Qormi, his town. Continuing in Franco’s Hal Ghaxaq, JPO’s Haz-Zebbug, Mugliett’s Hal Tarxien and ending at the president’s palace.
They should take that lousy Silvio Zammit with them and hey, although I hate mentioning that waste of space Privitera, he could tag along too and give us some air here.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Musumeci and Cini will be interviewing John Dalli, or the EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy, tonight.
If he is planning to go around presenting himself as the EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy he is going to have to make sure that he adheres to the Code of Conduct for Commissioners, which requires that he “behaves in a manner that is in keeping with the dignity and the duties of his office.”
Never misjudge a cornered rat, Daphne. I bet Dalli has an ace up his sleeve and at the end of the day, he is going to come out smelling with flowers.
I personally have my doubts on Dalli, just my humble opinion if I may add.
However, who is to gain at the end of the day with his resignation if I may ask?
I know for a fact that John Dalli abhors any type of tobacco. Meanwhile, Giovanni Kessler, the head of the OLAF investigation – had earlier backed a Philip Morris proposal on the ‘danger’ of plain cigarette packets. Their excuse: plain cigarette packets would allow the counterfeit manufacture of cigarette brands and mass production of such.
For crying out loud! Then print a hologram security patch on the packet. Come on Kessler, who are you trying to kid? Well he is another Italian who found that his previous job was to hot to handle.
The truth is that the Commissioner is just one spoke in the wheel. Most of the work on these proposals is done by the staff of the commission, not by the Commissioner. His role is to set the overall policy direction.
There is no way any commissioner will reverse a ban on any form of tobacco.
He/she wouldn’t even be able to set foot in a public health meeting without being heckled.
The only difference this mess will make is probably that the new strategy will be delayed by a few months. Which means that the current ban on snus will last at least a few months longer.
After that, a new strategy will almost surely keep the ban – can you imagine Tonio Borg trying to justify reversing the ban on snus with what has happened?
If big tobacco wanted to reverse the ban, they would have done it in a much more subtle and elegant way.
The Commissioner is on Super One right now.
Sporting jacket and tie on a short-sleeved shirt. Maa. That’s enough unambiguous circumstantial evidence for dismissal from the Commission without any OLAF investigation.
No judicial letter, guys. Dalli just said it was an “ittra b’avukat” This thing is gonna snowball in a bad way.
Usually lawyers send letters by registered post. Can we please see the date on the Maltapost registered letters’ receipt?
If Dalli finds no objection, he may as well publish the letter like his friends published the email for him. At least we’ll get to know who one of his lawyers is. No harm in that, no?
Just heard him say that it was an “ittra bl-avukat”. So there…
And according to him the PM knew about the investigation in July.
Unbelievable, he’s blaming everyone but himself.
@ Daphne
Alas, on a very different tragicomedy note;
http://news.sky.com/story/1001089/italian-scientists-jailed-in-quake-trial.
Excuse my language, but F**KING UNBELIEVABLE!
Meanwhile their ex-Prime Minister is hip on Bunga, Bunga.
Now, that is a real embarrassment to the 61,000,000+ of the Italian population.
As if one can precisely predict a flippin’ earthquake. Ask that to the Japanese where they shall give you an honest answer.
ah … the perils of circumstantial earth shaking evidence.
How much jail time if they predict a quake that doesn’t happen?
If the answer is none then predict one every day to stay out of chokey.
Actually, the signs were there, including an exponential increase in sulphur emissions from the fault circling the Abruzzo.
The issue was raised that night after a scientist who had been ostracised by the established community, managed to predict the first shock down to a tolerance of 24 hours. Deciding to sleep in his car, he saved himself and his family.
What’s tragic is that he was instructed by civil protection authorities to keep quiet or be charged with provoking unecessary panic.
This doesn’t mean error in scientific method should be punished, however in this case his method was ridiculed out of spite.
And what happens to the one who promised an earthquake but never happened? Well, let me say that at least I never felt it.
Just wastching Robert Musumeci with excommunicated Commissioner John Dalli on Super1.
It’s incredible what a script they prepared for Musumeci. He has six sheets of typed papers spread out in front of him.
John Dalli tried to become leader of the PN but lost, now he’s leading the MLP.
U le nahseb leader tal Partit Demokratiku Nazzjonalista b Franco Debono deputy leader u JPO segretarju generali . Forsi jsibu post ghal Mugliett
Maybe Dalli would prove to be a better leader than Muscat.
In Matthew Vella’s usual vocabulary, “Police Commissioner slams ex-Commissioner”…
The 60 million euro question is “Did John Dalli inform the Prime Minister that he was being investigated or not?”
[Daphne – He has answered that already. He said that he did not.]
John Dalli said this evening that Dr. Gonzi knew that he was being investigated. He got to know this when he had met Dr. Gonzi sometime in July, if I remember correctly.
[Daphne – I’m sorry, but having caught him out playing with words at least twice, I’m sceptical. I’ll need to hear the PM say it.]
The fact remains that it should have been Dalli to inform the prime minister. Whether the latter gets to know and how is not the question.
Now what about Harry Vassallo?
Where is that Privitera guy when you need him?
Ghax dak kollox jahseb u jkun jaf. Sa fl-ahhar forsi jilluminana.
Mr Privitera spent years calling John Dalli Johnny Cash, and now look…
Grosvenor: Iehor li m’ghandekx kuragg, jew tisthi, turi ismek. Kieku smajt lil John dalli jispjega l-pozizzjoni tieghu, kont tillumina ruhek. Jew forsi ma ridtx tisma l-verzjoni tieghu izda ridt biss tisma l-verzjoni ta’ dawk li riedu jkissruh ?
Mela ghadek imqajjem? Mela missus privitera keccietek?
Nies bhal Dalli rajt hafna. Kollha pezza wahda. Tghid mhux ha nara il-biki. Jien bhalissa barbeque hdejn il-bahar u nittajpja xi ftit minn fuq da l-imbarazz imsejjah tablet.
Why don’t you use Johnny Cash instead of John Dalli, like you used to do – veru ipokrita.
Tkunx il-pappagall ta’ Dalli, sur Privitera. Hadd ma kissru lil Dalli. Kisser lilu nnifsu – ma kellux bzonn ghajnuna minnghand hadd.
Wara li gbajtu thammguh, issa ghax hammgu haddiehor qieghdin taqbzu ghalih. Ipokriti! The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
X’imhatra li int kont wiehed milli kont tajjar lil Fenech Adami li ‘ghadu bil-harqa’ ghax kien izghar minn Mintoff u issa lest li taqta’ jdejk il-leminija biex tara lil Joseph isir l-izghar Prim Ministru ta’ Malta. Tiftakruhom il-posters b’Fenech Adami liebes in-nappy u l-gazaza? Very witty, prosit. Dejjem kontu ta’ klassi, eh?
X’imbarazz ta’ nies.
Dalli, case closed. Next please.

Mela kecciek Franco? Postok hemm, mat-tfal.
sturdut, postok sturdut fuq il-blokk ta’ Franco. Kompli hemm biex ahna inkomplu hawn.
If you have followed John Dalli’s interview on One TV this evening, you heard him say that the foreign press are more on his side. It is only in our country that the likes of you and a few other journalists in The Times, The Malta Independent and GonziPN media ,condemning him who are so blantly condemning him without having seen any proof of wrongdoing by Mr. Dalli !
[Daphne – Mr Privitera, we can read ‘the foreign press’ for ourselves, and don’t need John Dalli to interpret it for us. You should do the same.]
Eddy Privitera should read his beloved Orizzont of 28 November 1998 and comment on what he thought of that news.
Since when are Super One and L-orizzont part of the foreign press, Mr. Privitera?
Oh, and I forgot MaltaToday.
Your mistake, Mr Privitera, is to see this as being for or against John Dalli and assuming that the whole thinks the same way.
Dalii says the international press are on his side. The international media I’ve seen say nothing of the sort.
BTW Savior Balzan finally found the time to do a video blog and miracle of miracles he find all kind of excuses to attack ‘Frank Portelli, Tonio Borg, Giovanni Kessler, ajruplani privati, Gorg Fenech, Gasan, BWSC, balbuljati, kontra gurnalisti ohra, Lou Bondi, Tranter, Zaren Vassallo, taxxi, u fl ahhar semma lil John Dalli u gazetti barranin’ and he stopped here.
As if the foreign media are supportive of John Dalli! I call on Mr Balzan to give us a list of copies of these media that were supportive of Mr Dalli apart from Malta Today and Labour cronies.

His pants are on fire.
[Daphne – Apparently, so were his shirt-sleeves, so he left them at home tonight.]
Jeffrey, Franco and Johnny Dalli birds of a feather flocking to oblivion.
Privitera, int qed tirreferi ghal dak li kontu ssejhulu HuBastjan? Kemm tinsew malajr.
John Dalli should find time to go on Bondi+ now. Or is he scared?
Just read the joke of the year, courtesy of Franco Debono.
“One final word Dr Gonzi. We have respected you. We have been loyal to you.”
Like his fairy Godmother Marie Benoit, the Ghaxaq Capon is overly fond of the royal prerogative ”we” .
I am a simple-minded person.
Anyone who claims to support the Nationalist Party but goes on the Labour Party’s TV station to criticise the Nationalist Party/government is not worth bothering about.
Not only going on Super One but taking the least opportunity to hit out at the government even when it is uncalled for,
Tonight was just a case in point when he mentioned the power station. As if he hasn’t enough on his plate. And then he wants sympathy ‘minn dawn ta’ gewwa suppost’, all in the same breath.
And how did Dalli get hold of the email he brandished to the media, in the first place? Did Silvio Zammit conveniently hand it over to him?
