The future deputy prime minister acts for the man who raped his daughters

Anglu Farrugia, who will soon be deputy prime minister and minister of home affairs, was one of the defence lawyers for the man who regularly raped his three daughters, starting when they were 11 and 12.
Way to go, Inspector Gadget.
I thought Joseph Muscat said this was going to be the Most Feminist Government in Maltese History.

Come on Daphne…is it the first time that famous MP lawyers defended criminals and even killers? Sometimes I highly doubt your high intelligence…..
Don’t forget that he also knew about the Marsa mayor who fondled boys.
Way to go Anglu!
Tollerance 0 he said…….way to go Mr Muscat

[Daphne – You’re wrong, Mr Privitera. A lawyer is free to refuse any brief, and is obliged to take one up only when ordered to do so by the court. It’s doctors who are obliged to assist those who seek their (medical) help. Lawyers can do what they ruddy well like.]
@Eddy
How bloody idiotic can you be?
As if a lawyer in such a prominent political position can afford to be associated to such criminal cases.
It shows how dumbwitted and shortsighted the soon-to-be Deputy Prime Minister is.
And even more so fools like you who defend their every action, no matter how stupid they are.
@ Eddy
P.S. please learn some netiquette… Caps – or maybe you might know it as BLOCK letters – are a big no no.
P.S.S. You should ask your other partner in ‘crime’ and self-professed expert in the vernacular – Victor Laiviera – to teach you some Maltese. You need it… badly!
Privitera? Wrong?
Frankly this case is more horrifying than murder. Murder has a finality to it- but the incestuous rape of THREE minors will have implications that will go on for ever for these three sisters.
Way to go, Anglu
Dan ghal Franco Debono qed jghid. Mela dak Nazzjonalist?
Eddy Privitera always defends Labour despite its past. In this respect, he is on a par with Gadget.
Oh bloody hell – the ridiculous Eddy Privitera has even started commenting here now? Why not stick to where you belong Eddy? It can only end up badly for you here.
Basta jagevola u jiddefendi lil-Labour Eddie Privitera!
@eddy
the idiotic columnist has struck again.
Ehh allura hux…. mhux hemm jinza kappell u jilbes iehor. Dak multitasking gadget.
The Times did not even mention the defence team.
When the names of the accused and of the victims are forbidden to be published by a court order, does this order implies the names of the defence lawyers? I doubt it.
I agree with you. I think it would be good to know which journalist of The Times was detailed to cover this court case.
Heqq! Jekk hemm cans ta’ xi bicca hobs, ser nitilfuha?
Question. Is it just my impression that it is only Labour ‘lawyers’ who defend Mata’s most seedy criminals? Must be some affinity there.
It is just your impression. But two wrongs don’t make a right, right? Lawyers specialising in criminal law should never be in politics. When will we ever learn?
Baxxter, you say that “Lawyers specialising in criminal law should never be in politics.”
Does that mean that politics should be left to the criminals?
Good point, my friend. My response? Never in this country. Too lucrative.
However, this disease is not Malta specific. Greedy politico/lawyers are everywhere.
Think of John Edwards, American ambulance chaser, who made millions, a presidential candidate who royally fucked up through lust, greed and sordid ambition.
Probably would be a star candidate in little Joey’s lineup.
If it were up to me, I’d bar Maltese lawyers from any political post. The legal profession in Malta is not a career track, but a ruddy cabal.
I can make an exception for corporate and tax lawyers, and perhaps international lawyers, but that’s just about it. But criminal lawyers? Consorting with criminals and corrupt police officers, and then making the laws which regulate the activities of both? Niemals.
I mean it’s not as if we’ve any lack of examples of the political cock-ups this creates.
Then there’s the lack of thinking ability in our legal practitioners, which on its own should be a giant warning sign against electing them to office. Hands up anyone who’s ever been impressed by a Maltese lawyer’s thinking skills.
And no, I don’t mean knowledge of the minutiae of history à la Giovanni Bonello (to whom I doff my hat. A man with a moustache and the bearing of a gentleman.).
This is what we will be seeing from the future deputy prime minister. Defence of the indefensible. I think he wanted it ‘on the record’. Little did he realise this news item will not go down well with many.
Jixtieq li jghid li huwa wkoll feminist, imma ma jafx jippronunzja.
How could a lawyer find it in himself to defend a man who committed such indefensible acts?
How does he sleep at night?
How does he face the people?
How does he show his face as a politician?
How does he reconcile his decision to serve such man with his status as a righteous politician?
How could one sell their soul to the devil for . . . what? Money? Certainly it is not because of justice.
Well said
How does he face his children or grand children, or the children of others?
So, Anglu Farrugia defends a man who regularly raped his three young daughters from when they were just 11 or 12, whilst Robert Abela (husband of PL’s Lydia Abela) was the defence lawyer for the woman who was jailed for not forcing her 17-year-old son to visit his father against his will.
Il-vera progressivi u liberali. U femministi.
A lawyer is not an adjudicator, their job is to represent their client’s perspective and make sure they recieve a fair trial – and everyone has the right to a fair trial and legal representation including this rapist and anyone else who has committed a heineous crime.
That is the beauty of the legal system. The legal system works, if he is guilty beyond reasonable doubt then the court will find him to be so.
This has nothing to do with feminism or with being able to sleep at night. Lawyers are not there to make personal judgements about the merits of the case.
Joseph Muscat promised the most feminist government in history.
Anglu Farruiga is deputy leader of the PL and expects to be deputy prime minister.
So a lawyer who defends a man who rapes his daughters will be deputy leader of the most feminist government in history.
Now, do you understand what’s wrong?
One day, a lawyer who defends a criminal who is found guilty and imprisoned, may become a justice minister responsible, among other things, for recommending Presidential pardons and amnesties that could benefit his imprisoned client.
Is this desirable?
He did not defend him. The man admitted of defiling his daughters. Anglu could only ask for a reduced sentence. It all depended on the judge. In my opinion the judgement was not harsh enough.
Shame on the lawyer! Is he not a father too? How can you feed those you love out of having defended such a monster? He is free to accept clients or refuse them. And he accepted this one.
Jien li dejjqetni l-izjed li is-sentenza giet mifthema bejn Anglu Farrugia u il-prosukizzjoni dik li jekk jitla il-Labour tkun taht il-kmand ta’ Dr Farrugia.
The defence lawyers were very effective as they managed to get only a ten year sentence for their client.
Anything for a buck, or, in this case, a euro.
One never knows but the three sisters may one day be star candidates for the Labour Party thanks to Anglu’s self-sacrifice, defending a confessed rapist who happened to be their own father. He wouldn’t miss an opportunity, would he?
Filth from top to bottom. Zero tolerance, my foot.
Imma stenna naqa defni din on the rekord jew le?
