Isn’t life just plain nuts?

Now one of them is going to be a member of the European Parliament while the other one is going to lead Malta’s protracted negotiations on EU budget cuts (having been an MEP already).

Who would have thought that the Super One reporter sniping at Eddie Fenech Adami and telling him that his plans for EU membership would wreck Malta (ghax Partnership l-ahjar ghazla) would end up prime minister himself within a mere 10 years, with Malta’s EU budget negotiations in his hands?

What a stupid country – I mean, really. Unbelievable. We seem always to have our finger collectively poised on the suicide button, with a continuous jostling match between those who are desperate to press it and those who are desperate to stop them.

You know what, at this point I think we really, really deserve what we’re going to get.

In a couple of years’ time we’ll all be “how they’ve wrecked the country, ahjar l-ohrajn ghax bl-arroganza kollha taghhom almenu kienu jafu x’inhuma jaghmlu”.

Only this time around there won’t be a Dom Mintoff to obligingly bring down the government after two years and we’ll be stuck with them for the whole five years.

You know what Ramona, I think that in a couple of years’ time, whatever happens to Malta, there will still be a sizeable percentage of the population that will always be in favour of Labour, irrespective of what they do to the country.

This thing gets me. After 16 years of a socialist economy which wrecked a country, the PN won by only a few thousand votes. The hard cores in Malta are pretty much entrenched in their beliefs and loyalties, come what may. It is only a very few thousand which change the outcomes of local general elections.

It is exasperating, but that is how things are.

      • Taks Fors says:

@ Another John: The fact that PN got elected in 87 by a few thousand votes wasn’t that bad as KMB had enrolled thousands in government’s employment just before that election.

What still bewilders me is that just 9 short years after all the violence committed by Lejber, and PN’s achievements through those same 9 years people still sent Eddie to the Opposition benches with a resounding electoral defeat. How can that ever be explained?

We are going to have more and more diversity within the EU.

So low, has the bar gone down for the majority of the Maltese.

In another cruel twist of fate, they will also be leading Malta’s EU presidency in 2017.

Life is not only just plain nuts, it is also totally unfair.

Why is Dr. Gonzi toiling in negotiations with the EU to ensure that Malta protects an additional EUR 300 million of EU budget funds so that they will be spent by Joseph Muscat and his government?

What does Joe Muscat say at the start of this video?

  8. Philip says:

Excellent clip, Daphne, as was your previous article. Says it all.

One problem though: too many bird-brains around with the wrong priorities.

    INCREDIBLE BUT TRUE!

Three Maltese expresions comes to mind:
    1. Irid ikollok wiccek u wicc l-ghatba tal-Qorti xorta.
    2. Hobz il-biezel kielu l-ghazzien.
    3. Min tkaza waqa’ fil-kaza.

Remember, Sant was the role model for Muscat. He even published a book on Sant. He’s just following siut: Mazzoranza Gdida turned to Moviment Gdid, Vat Removal-Electricity Bill Slash, Centru Nazzjonali Laburista- Arma Gdida, etc etc

Joseph Muscat – l-awtur ta’ kampanja ta’ qerq. Fenech Adami ma jomoghdiex u kellu ragun.

Muscat kien qarrieq, ghadu, u jibqa.

Just heard on the news that Alfred Sant will contest the MEP elections. Unbelievable….he must be after the gravy train.

I am sure that gullible people, after all he said about Europe, will elect him. According to him we should all be starving after these years in the E.U.

  13. Chris says:

Truth is that PN have created their own mess. PL is not a better alternative.

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

Spot on. They should have won landslide victories for half a century. Instead they’re facing a major defeat. Never was so much fucked for so many by so few.

I couldn’t sleep after reading the sentence that you wrote above, Daphne. It’s so true.

  16. David Meilak says:

Eddy, once said that there will come a day that the LP will try to convince us that it was their party that made Malta join the EU.

The expression ‘incredible’ is not enough to describe these people.

  17. Matt says:

It saddens me that one half of the electorate is unable to think intelligently.

Common sense tells me that Labristi should reject Alfred Sant outright.

He was a big failure in Maltese parliament and hopeless as a prime minister. With his dismal thinking he doesn’t deserve to represent Malta in the EU parliament.

  18. Riya says:

    @ Taks Fors.

Eddie was put in opposition due to introduction of the VAT system which was introduced just before the election,

Alfred Sant had promised that if elected this system will be removed. But we all know what happened including the resignation of Lino Spiteri because of the hard headed and non politician Alfred Sant.

This same mistake will be repeated if the PL attempta to minimise the electricity bills after this coming election if the PL unfortunately will be trusted to run the country.
