Oh, what a surprise: Labour sacrifices principle for power

Published: November 26, 2012 at 5:55pm

The Labour leader made a meal of the fact that the Opposition would ensure the IVF bill is amended. Now he has dropped those amendments, saying that he does not want the process to be derailed, which is what would happen if continued debate on this bill gets snarled up in the dissolution of parliament if the budget is defeated.

And who is going to vote against the budget? He is. And his people are. So he has a solution before him: ensure that at least two or three of his people don’t vote against the budget, and see his all-important amendment go through. After all, what are another few months until a general election when you’ve waited for so long – even longer than all those people who want to have children?

Perhaps Labour wants Government to pass a ‘bad’ law so that, after the elections, Joseph Muscat The Saviour can amend the law and get credit for it.

Portugal and Poland will not take part in the Eurovision contest this year because of the economic crisis in their respective countries; they could not afford to host the festival if they won. Will the penny finally drop that there is an economic crisis in Europe whilst Malta is still relatively unscathed.

    • JoeM says:

On the contrary, if Eurovision Song Contests are won or lost by presence of economic crises or otherwise, then we should be firm favourites to win the much-coveted competition.

Malta has steered skilfully away from the Europe-wide economic crisis, thus giving us the opportunity to host the Contest when we win in 2013.

Labour’s only principle is the desire for power at all costs.

As long as that principle is respected, Labour will vote in favour of any bill.

How can people still be allowed to speak like this? As though Malta can ever go back to its quasi-communist state as it was under Mintoff?

@Riya, You sent chills down my spine. I thought of MLP winning the election after the serious harm they did to Malta is frightening.
