I hope you’re watching the prime minister speaking in parliament

Published: December 10, 2012 at 5:48pm

I’m watching the proceedings on NET. Franco Debono has just made a point of rudely walking past the prime minister as he speaks, blocking the camera lens.

Hardly surprising, but there you go.

He could easily have gone out through the door next to his seat or the closed corridor behind the seats of MPs.

  2. Help us Lord says:

An amazing and truly inspirational speech.

  3. Lomax says:

Yes, we’re watching the Prime Minister and I’m so proud to say he’s our Prime Minister – even if for the last few weeks.

On another note, look at what has been posted as a reply to Aaron Farrugia’s post on Facebook:-

JPO and Mugliett might arrive late for the vote as their car had a puncture/broke down/caught fire.

I am sure that they are reading the comments on this blog.

    • Lomax says:

Between the two of us, I wrote the word “moments” because, try as I might, I cannot face the inevitable because I am still hoping against hope that FD will somehow vote in favour. However, I am forcing myself to accept the reality. Hence, I am telling myself: in a few moments, this will be over.

Why do we have to go through this every five years?

  4. Stacey says:

I too am listening with pride to a man who has overcome so much and worked so hard for the whole country.

    He speaks eloquently and sensibly.

What a stark contrast to the man sitting opposite him, the man with whom so many are planning to replace him.

Yes, Prime Minister, whatever the outcome I am grateful to you and would like to thank you for the service you have given the country and myself as a citizen. I sincerely hope that the electorate will come to its senses in the coming weeks.

    • Jason Scerri says:

I totally agree with your comment.

Considering the difficult times our country has faced during the last years and the internal strife, he remained focused on the job at hand, with very good results.

  5. ego trip says:

What a prime minister! Thank you, Dr Gonzi.

  6. TinaB says:

How anyone can even think of electing Joseph Muscat to run the country instead of Dr Gonzi, in a few months’ time, is beyond me.

  7. xmun says:

I wonder if Eddy Privitera and the other elves are watching – from the bathroom.

  8. Stacey says:

    SURPRISE SURPRISE

Super one is not showing the Prime Minister in parliament.
What exactly are they afraid of?

    • anna caruana says:

Net did not broadcast Franco s speech, are they afraid of what he said.

[Daphne – Of course they did. A touch of psychosis, perhaps, Anna?]

  9. Ken il malti says:

Dr. Gonzi is unfortunately preaching to the choir in his very sensible speech in response to Joseph Muscat’s mish mash and less than half truths on taxing minimum wage earners.

I can’t believe how much Dr. Gonzi has aged in these last four years since I met him in person.

  10. Catsrbest says:

I have always maintained that Dr Gonzi is, up to now, Malta’s best Prime Minister. In my opinion, his personality has surpassed even that of his predecessor – Dr Fenech Adami. His sublime public speaking is his opponents’ great envy.

  11. Esteve says:

I’m watching Lawrence Gonzi speaking in parliament at the moment. The list of achievements is endless. I am impressed.

Anybody seriously considering voting for the PL should really listen closely and reflect a little.

If their only reason for doing so is because of this government’s warts (and admittedly there are a few), they had better realise this is as good as it gets.

The PL can promise pie in the sky, or even the current budget measures, but with their current line-up there is no way they can deliver results which are anything evenly remotely comparable to what this government has done.

  12. M. says:

    Manners maketh man.

  13. Frans Cassar says:

A true leader, no less no more. Thanks for the responsible leadership of these last five years.

  14. John Zammit says:

For a moment I was thinking, how the hell did he manage to persuade his constituents to vote for him?

Believe me, outvoting Helena Dalli was something I approved, and Louis Galea, I choose not to comment.

But he took the cake and managed to sway and direct all TV cameras onto him. To walk and block the Prime Minister as he spoke shows that he is a proper and well qualified “pastas”.

Sadly this country needs a full blast course in manners and savoir faire. A huge percentage of parliamentarians themselves are lucky to know how to do their ties let alone how to present themselves with a lot of elegant politicians abroad.

    What a lout.
