Labour delivers. Now, it also serves. Gosh.

I read reports of the future prime minister’s speech yesterday and noted with delight that now, he doesn’t just deliver, but he’s also “ready to serve”.

That’s good, I thought. They’ve found the gap in the market. It can be really annoying when the man from China House takes your cash, beetles off and leaves you standing there with a package full of steaming aluminium boxes with those annoying peel-off cardboard tops.

What are you supposed to do – dole out your own food?

Labour deliver. And now they serve, too. Ring them.

You bet he is, as long as it’s porridge.

I like the way Labour is evolving.

First it was a 7-11 convenience store catering for all sorts outside the mainstream. Now it is reinventing itself and sounds more like Domino’s Pizza or a all-night take-out.

What next? Cash and carry metaphor? Or one of those buffets all-you-can-eat?

Nah. It’s come and get stuffed.

      Labour’s next projects:

      1. A ‘Muscat’ Castille outlet for Buttardi.

      2. A ‘Toni Abela’ supermarket in one of the buildings opposite Castille, to guarantee a job to our youths.

      3. A ‘Anglu Farrugia’ Empire Station at Castille Place, to sell Labour movement gas.

‘…Muscat’s most barbed criticism of the Nationalist budget was when he accused Lawrence Gonzi of “having lost the plot” and of having “underestimated the altruism of Maltese society” with a tax cut for those who earn €19,501-€60,000 who will be paying 25% tax by 2015, down from 35%.

“GonziPN made a social error in its budget. Gonzi tried to appeal to a sense of egoism in those who don’t care about the people around them, who don’t care about minimum wage-earners. GonziPN has underestimated Maltese society and our families, and the new generation being built in our country where even those who are well-off understand that they can only advance further if the people around them are advancing further. It is this sense of social justice and altruism that is at the heart of every person in Malta.”

Joseph’s not one for turning, or is he? Barely a week passed and the commitment to keep the budget is gone.
