Would Joseph Muscat’s party care to comment?
The Nationalist Party has called for the immediate resignation of Judge Farrugia Sacco and says that it will support, in parliament, a motion for his impeachment.
The Labour Party has, so far, been silent on the matter.
The Times reports this morning:
“Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco should tender his resignation immediately. The honourable thing to do is to leave, but if he doesn’t then the Government and Parliament should act,” the PN’s spokesman told The Times yesterday.
“Judges should behave impecc-ably and do nothing to tarnish the reputation of the judiciary. Their first priority should always be respect to their office,” the spokesman added.
(…)
Justice Minister Chris Said told The Times he would “not hesitate” to move an impeachment motion on Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco if the Commission for the Administration of Justice found grounds for doing so.
“The impeachment of a judge is a very serious matter and the decision about that has to be taken after a proper consideration of all the facts as they relate to the person’s holding of judicial office,” the minister said.
Dr Said recalled that he had brought the case to the “immediate and urgent” attention of the commission back in June.
Dr Said had written to the commission asking it to investigate the matter when The Sunday Times of London named Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco in an undercover investigation into the sale of Olympic tickets.
“Justice Ministers do not have an investigative role. It is the Commission for the Administration of Justice that has jurisdiction over the workings of the courts and the behaviour of members of the judiciary,” he said.
Up till now, he added, he had not received any communication from the commission, except confirmation that it was investig-ating the case.
Dr Said also pointed out that Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco’s attention had already been drawn by the commission back in 2007 when it ruled that by holding office as MOC president he was in breach of the judiciary’s code of ethics

No comment is possible at this point in time. Farrugia Sacco’s barefaced arrogance is enough for him to resign after having been advised long ago by the commission to do so.
Morals were never the PL’s strongpoint so i wouldn’t hold my breath.

As far as the little elves scribbling on The Times comments board are concerned, LayLay did nothing wrong by stealing someone else’s land, developing it and then selling it, because it happened so long ago anyway.
In the Farrugia Sacco intrigue, they are pooh-poohing it and referring to it as some sort of minor issue to do with sports.
What a bunch of hypocritical sanctimonious white-washed tombs.
Labour have commented but they have missed the point completely. Apparently for Labour this is just a sport organisation issue.
From the Times article….
A Labour Party spokesman said: “The rule of thumb is that politics should not get involved in the decisions that should be taken by independent sport organisations.
“We understand that this issue will be brought before the Commission for the Administration of Justice, where the person involved will have the opportunity to present his version of facts.”
According to the PL only the PN should be accountable – others just have a ball.
Labour has a dirty past, a dirty present and by the looks of it a very dirty future after so many years in limbo.
Labour actually is at its worst.
Can the Commission for the Administration of Justice explain how, in 2007, it had ruled that Farrugia Sacco was in breach of the judiciary’s code of ethics and 5 years later this person is still in the same position and still in breach and nothing has been done about it?
If this commission is toothless then it should be removed and replaced. How can you be Judge and break regulations at the same time?
Seven months later and they still are investigating. What a joke.
So the President is trying to help cover up for one of Labour’s own. Let enough time pass and it will go away.
So much for being a President for Malta. Shame.
But then I could never stand that fake posturing of his as being a President for everyone.
That meek smile is nothing but a guise for a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Do the right thing, President Abela.
Dan pajjiz tal-PUDINI.
Jekk dwar dan il-kaz ma’ tittihidx azzjoni serja nkunu qed inhajru lin-nies isiru aktar korrotti specjalment dawk fil-pozizzjonijiet oghljin.
Just wondering: can someone from the PN now appear before this judge in court and expect justice? There must be some way to get rid of these untouchables.
Scandalous. No wonder our “corruption index” ranking is plummeting.
In the space of a few months we have had a Maltese EU Commissioner booted out, an ex Sliema mayor convicted of soliciting a bribe, football corruption, one or two international players found guilty, and more.
It is not a partisan matter – it must be something to do with our psyche.
[Daphne – Corruption like this happens everywhere. It’s what happens after discovery that’s different.]
