Herr Flick gets it badly wrong (you know, for a change)

Leo Brincat on Xarabank:

“One finds countless long term gas purchasing agreements of 10 years duration all over the world nowadays”.

Bruce B Henning, Vice President, Energy Regulatory and Market Analysis, ICF International:

“One important feature of current natural gas markets is a heavy reliance on relatively short-term contracts for the purchase of the commodity. When contrasted with the contract practices that existed 25 or 30 years ago, the extent of the changes in the nature of the market becomes clear. Prior to the restructuring of the industry, gas supply contracts often had terms of ten years or more whereas today they are typically less than three years.”

Thank you, Mario, for sending it in.

Konrad promised Norman Vella all the links to all the contracts around all the world.

    Yippee.

  2. Edward says:

Just in case I didn’t understand, the PL want to privatise water and electricity?

    • canon says:

Not exactly. Electricity is split between generation and distribution.

Generation is the process of generating power i.e the power station. The PL wants a private company to invest in a new power station.

  3. Jozef says:

I heard Marlene blurt out that the foreign consultants were only engaged to carry out an audit of the PL’s work.

Which task seems to have been entrusted to Konrad Mizzi.

When Beppe quipped they won’t manage to find an investor, she couldn’t resist and retorted ‘dazgur li ghandna investitur’

This has to be the soundbite of the whole campaign. I bet that’s why Joseph was keeping her away from the cameras, she can’t keep her mouth shut, and then it’s too late.

    Cherchez la femme indeed.

    • ciccio says:

I did not watch this part of the programme continuously, but if she said that, then that soundbite should be uploaded on Youtube, with a link from this blog.

  4. QahbuMalti says:

You can have a gas purchasing contract for a 100 years but no one is going to give you a FIXED PRICED contract for more than three years.

  5. Harry Purdie says:

Oops, now Herr Flick fucks up. About to be relegated to the sidelines also? The dinosaurs are self-destructing.

Another plan gone bad, little Joey?

Keep up the good work. You’re just what we need.

  6. Josette Jones says:

In his first 30 seconds he said twice that all Maltese families will see a 25% reduction in there electricity bills. Has no one told him about the use-more-pay-more system in the works.

  7. Aunt Hetty says:

If I was Gorg Pullicino, I would have told Herr Flick where to shove that big bottle of blackish goo.

  8. cintura says:

Did Leo Brincat obtain the heavy oil sample from Enemalta? If so, did he pay for it? If not, that’s stealing.

  9. old-timer says:

Marlene said it: they already have an “investor”.

So now we know where the money for the election campaign is coming from. May they oblige us with the name, please?

  10. The chemist says:

Leo’s in that age gap where producing natural gas is increased tenfold. Problems arise when that gas is not completely released which tends to rise to the cranium, hence the bollocks we tend to hear from time to time.

  11. MxC says:

The best part was “Tista tistaqsini, imma jien niddeceidi l-ordni ta kif nirrispondihom” or something like that.

If that isn’t the greatest sign of arrogance, I don’t know what is.

  12. Wilson says:

One need not even check. If gas markets were dependent on 10 year contracts, there would little variance in the gas market.

Why are you still bothering trying to understand what Labour is up to?

Anyone that is believing this power/energy scam must be an idiot.

But what is best about the past week is the discovery that who is leading the ‘social partners’ are no brighter than Muscat.

So really who can keep in check for what is best for the island’s long term benefit?? It seems to me that there are brighter or smarter people amongst the layman than in parliament.
