Is he planning to return and face charges, or is he doing a runner?

timesofmalta.com reports today that:

The police planned to arraign former European Commissioner John Dalli over the bribery case that ended his career in Brussels but have been holding off due to his ill-health.

Investigators intended calling in Mr Dalli to the Police Depot in Floriana during the first week of January before proceeding with his arraignment but their plans were disrupted when Mr Dalli was taken ill at a Brussels hospital. The former PN Minister has since provided the police with medical certificates saying that he cannot travel.

Does he still have a hotline to Joseph Muscat? Is he keeping him informed of developments? Will he be on Super One TV again three times a week and any time soon?

Now we know that Joseph Muscat and his nice friends at the Labour Party sold him down the river. But serve him right and more fool him for thinking he could trust people who are as seedy and sleazy as he is.

When Labour announced its pre-sold deal for a power station, it became obvious that they were not really dealing with Sargas at all. They only gave John Dalli the impression they were so that in return he would give them what they want in terms of Super One TV appearances running PM Gonzi and his government down.

John Dalli behaved like a cheap and money-grubbing charlatan, divested himself of the dignity he probably didn’t have to begin with, and embarrassed himself in his position as EU Commissioner – all because there was something for him in a Sargas power station sold to Malta. And he has been left empty-handed, while the deal went to somebody else.

Had almost forgotten that besides the 60 million there was also the Sargas project up his sleeve. Norman Hamilton must be laughing his head off.

  2. TROY says:

Just like the dog that saw it’s own reflection in the water.

Dalli dropped his bone for an illusion.

  3. H.P. Baxxter says:

John Dalli, in late 2011, at a conference, discussing pensions:

“I am 64 but I do not feel old. I am in perfect health and full of energy. I do not wish to retire.”

Has this nation of ours, become so hard hearted, that we have no feelings for a fellow countryman who is undergoing treatment in a Brussels hospital?
      Shame on all of you.
      One pertinent question;
What would your feelings be if he was from the P.L instead as one of the ex-ministers of your own party?

    • Mark says:

He might be paving the way for preferential treatment at Kordin once he is out of trump cards.

  4. Nighthawk says:

What makes you think he’s got nothing to do with Labour’s latest power plan? Many fingers make for many pies…..

    • silvio says:

Hope he does, that will assure us that it was a well worked and reseached plan.
One of John’,s FORTE is that whatever he does he does well.

  5. bystander says:

When was the last time a Labour politician got arraigned on a corruption charge, please?

  6. Daisy says:

How convenient to be stuck in hospital in Brussels, presumably not having to foot the bill too.

Perhaps he is waiting to come back on a €35 flight.

  7. Village says:

Stramba din. Hu stess bena sptar state of the art u b’xejn, ghaliex ma jigix lura Malta w jiffranka spizza?

  8. anthony says:

Is he doing a Bettino Craxi?

  9. Gahan says:

Is this the way the Dallis deal with the police?

Bastjan went to Gaddafi’s Libya to escape from prosecution.

  10. Josephine says:

So the “prisoner from Brussels” may have found it convenient to voluntarily make himself a permanent resident there now.

  11. P Shaw says:

Joseph is the quintessential shallow politician who excels at what the Italians call “usa e getta”.

Dalli was resentful enough to be used willingly, and the same thing will happen to the switchers.

They will feel gratified for a few days until the bleak reality dawns upon them within a matter of weeks.

  12. Riya says:

John Dalli ghalxejn mar jinhabb ma’ tal-Labour biex ihalluh kwiet jekk ikunu fil-gvern jew inkellabiex jakkwistaw xi haga flimkien ghax xorta irruzulta qabel li huwa bniedem korrot.

Pero’ tal-Labour xorta iddefendewh specjalment dak li on the record kien innocenti u korrett Joe Grima li nesa hafna affarijiet korrotti u moqzieza li kien ghamel il-gvern tal-Labour meta Joe Grima stess kien Ministru.

Titbellah u titnixxef meta nies li kienu Ministri fi zmien il-Labour ghandhom memorja daqs hekk qasira hux!

Possibli li lil Joseph Muscat hadd qatt ma’ qallu x’kienu jghamlu dawn il-Ministri biex zammghom daqshekk vicin tieghu?

Jista’ jaghti l-kaz li forsi jafu xi haga dwaru u allura Joseph Muscat jinsab f’posizzjoni li ma’ jistax jitkellem!

  13. Angus Black says:

The prison sentence in Brussels was too much for the poor old guy.

He should return to Malta asap and get free health care and free medicines too.

  14. Matt says:

Daphne, why did he opt for a hospital in Brussels? What he is ailing from? Did he need surgery that is not done in Malta? Not a vote of confidence for Maltese doctors by a former health minister?

  15. Qeghdin Sew says:

I heard he had a bad bout of migraine.

[Daphne – Yes. Or perhaps he is pregnant, like Gayle Kimberly.]

  16. observer says:

Let’s wish him a speedy recovery – without a relapse after the publication of the OLAF report.

  17. Leslie says:

Hallihom ha jiehdu dawn ic-carlatani. Basta minghalihom li farrku lil Gonzi u l-kabinet tieghu.

Bil-ghatx il-gawi. Ejja lura Malta Johnny Dalli halli tiffaccja l-gustizzja u jekk ghandek ragun hudu, u jekk ghandek tort hejji ruhhek ghal zmien twil maqful.

Missek tisthi waqqajt wicc Malta ghac-cajt ghall-FLUS.

  18. ciccio says:

    Some excellent comments above.

Can we do one of those prank calls, like the one from the Australian radio station to the King Edward VII Hospital, and check about his health condition?

  19. Malta Taghna Biss - PL says:

Dalli huwa wiehed minn dawk id-“disgruntled nexinalists” li jibilghu il-lixka, mahduma apposta ghalihom, ta’ “Malta taghna lkoll” tal-Partit Laburista ta’ Joseph Muscat.

Lixka mahduma apposta ghal min jahseb li ma nghatax dak li ma kellux dritt ghalih.

    Fil-verita, il-mument li il-Labour ikunu fil-gvern, jaghmlu l-Malta kollha taghhom. U taghhom biss.

Id-“disgruntled nexinalists” ghandhom jitghallmu a spejjez ta’ haddiehor. Basta jharsu lejn Dalli u lejn kif Joseph Muscat ittratta lil Anglu Farrugia.

  20. ZN says:

    Second one nahseb…a nice runner.

PS Daphne – Your face on the home page is so much better than the one you had of Anglu. Looking good! :)

  21. Artemis says:

Maybe the stress has got to him. He’s had a taste of his own medicine. Now he knows what his victims feel like. Not nice, is it Mr Dalli?
