Oh, so the French are not very European then, are they (by JosephMuscat2013.com’s standards)

Hundreds of thousands of people, almost as many as the population of Malta, have been mobilised in Paris today to protest against Hollande’s proposals for gay marriage law. Yes, hundreds of thousands.

They’re pouring in on five high-speed trains, 900 buses, and hundreds of car pools, having left home before dawn. They’re marching from three starting-points and will converge on the Eiffel Tower by late afternoon.

And the weather is freezing.

This is in France, the European home of separation between church and state, the land of liberte, fraternite and egalite.

Has Hollande gone out to patronise them by telling them they are not European and that they belong to the past? No, he has not. Has he reminded them that they voted for change and that now they’re getting it?

No, he has not. The press is doing that.

And I say this as somebody who thinks that if two people want to get married, whatever their gender, then why would anyone else care, and good luck to them. Like everyone else, they’ll need it.

I’ve just got home from a short drive here in Gozo.

Labour supporters headed to the mass meeting are all dressed in red despite party orders not to. You can spot them a mile off.

As far as I recall, the Labour leader has declared he is opposed to gay marriage. The French are not only protesting on gay marriage but also on adoption by gay couples.

      Which I too would do.

Every child has the right to have a male father and a female mother.

Otherwise, children would be exposed to state-sanctioned discrimination.

  3. M... says:

Every child has a biological father and mother, but that is no guarantee that they will provide a supportive environment.

There are some very successful and stable adults brought up by lone male or female parents as well as hetrosexual or same sex couples.

The gender/sexual orientation of the parents does not dictate the outcome of the child’s chances of doing well; the genes do however.

M… you seem to favour nature over nurture. Can you elaborate why?

There is a difference between a situation created by circumstances to one created by design.

All commercial planes can fly with one of their engines switched off, but no pilot in his right mind would take off with a missing engine.

      • Teatrini says:

SM, let us elaborate on your allegory. Orphaned/abandoned children will then correspond to a plane who lost both its engines.

So, would you rather have the plane never take off, or the plane take off with two right engines that are willing to server as both the left and the right engine?

In this case, your argument is a non-starter.
