“That’s absolutely fascinating. Now I’ll just go in search of a drink. Would you like one?”

Published: January 17, 2013 at 7:43pm

A friend has just emailed to remind me of an excellent parallel to Miles Seaman’s description of Labour’s plans as “very ambitious”, and the way Karmenu Vella repeated this at a press conference as though it were high praise and commendation.

Leon Brittan had described Alfred Sant’s ‘partnership with the EU’ as “fascinating”.

And the Labour-leaning press dissolved in ecstasy: “Il-pjan ghal Partnerxipp huwa affaxxinanti.”

When I said I love to be put on a pedestal, I didn’t mean literally.

What’s his opening line – “Have you heard the one about the three nuns in a railway compartment?”

Here’s another balloon burst. Joseph may as well resign as from now.

He cannot reduce the utility bill by 25% but only by 17% and this according to Konrad (Wonder Boy) Mizzi’s own figures.

The utility bills are made up water and electricity typically water makes up 40% of the bill and electricity 60%.

Therefore a bill for 100 euro will have a reduction of 15 euro from the electricity part and 2 Euro from the water section. Total a reduction of 17 euro = 17%

Two measures I use are simple – Labour improved the standard of living and individual wealth by handing out parcels of land, flats and houses to those who were able to corrupt.

PN governments improved lives by opening up the doors of the university and bringing back to life MCAST so that us and our children can succeed irrespective of our parents’ background.

Labour opted for Libya, China and more recently Partnership. PN opted for EU. Enough said.

The higher the platform, the shorter he looks. Ridiculous. And his admirers are not anyone – parliamentarians and candidates.

So. What’s your gripe with Deborah?

[Daphne – That she’s not at all bright. The hallmark of an intelligent debater/speaker is the ability to be one step ahead (two or three, if possible) of interlocutors/interviewers. You can get some training for this, but it only really works if you are sharp. She walked into a few walls, not least her accusation that Malta didn’t get enough money from the EU. She should have been able to envisage the inevitable comeback: “Well, then, imagine if we had got nothing at all (as a consequence of Labour’s decision that we shouldn’t be in the EU at all). Also that business with the Marsa power station, for which the Labour Party was responsible. I’ll let you know when you should open your champagne, by the way.]

    • Stingray says:

Your attempt to deviate attention from the crass comments about Deborah by Giraffa, Cintura and Hajbu failed miserably.

I do not remember you criticising Deborah’s debating skills when she was leading the debate in the run-up to the divorce referendum which was won also thanks to her great contribution.

[Daphne – Yes, because that was her strength. She came into the public arena on that single issue. In other issues, she is right out of her depth, and this is not helped by the fact that she supports PN policies and has done so for years, voting for the PN, so she can’t argue with conviction in favour of anything the Labour Party did or does. She can only talk about ‘feelings’ or the nice feeling that being part of the Labour Party gives her. I’m not going to vote Labour because Labour makes Deborah Schembri feel better about herself. I want to see her defend Labour policies – properly.]

      • Stingray says:

Rest assured that there are hundreds out there who are going to cross to Labour like Deborah and other PN card carrying persons did because they had lost the “nice feeling” of being part of the PN a long time ago. And, waiting to pop my champagne on March 10th, there I rest my case.

[Daphne – Please don’t confirm my suspicions about your shallowness and lack of insight. Political parties are not there to give you a nice feeling or ensure you don’t “feel hurt”. They’re there to run the country. Feel free to pop your champagne on March 10, but I wouldn’t drink too much of it. It doesn’t mix well with the stomach acid of bilious bitterness.]

If I remember correctly on Pawlu’s Blog (Austin Gatt’s son) there was an article about her, since she was on the forefront protesting against the Labour government back in 2006 against the stipends cut.
