Here’s why he’s asking people to vote early

Joseph and his Laburisti are passing the word around for people to go out and vote early in the day.
Some of my readers have asked me why.
Does he think there’s going to be a coup d’etat with the polling-booths closed down in the afternoon?
No, my dears – it’s a lot simpler than that.
He’s scared that if they have a whole day to think about voting Labour, there’s a risk that some of them will change their minds.
But once it’s done, it’s done. If you’ve voted Labour at 9am, it’s pointless changing your mind after lunch.

This must be a picture taken at an instant when he was lying. It’s not just that deep furrow. When he lies, he loses control over his lower lips, possibly the entire jaw.
There is another reason Daphne.
When PL supporters vote early their votes will be concentrated at the bottom. On opening the boxes they will be turned upside down to let the voting documents out and therefore the PL votes will be on top.
That`s where the unofficial sampling by the party reps start.
THE AIM IS THEREFORE TO GET A FAVOURABLE SAMPLE FROM THE START. THAT`S WHERE THE COUP D` ETAT COMES INTO PLAY. THEY HOPE THAT THE PN REPS WILL ABANDON SHIP AND THEY WILL THEN HAVE A FEAST.
This is the true reason going around within PL circles
If this is true, we should vote early too, so we ruin their plans.
I would hate to have leniency instill itself for good on that day. Hope the NP have a fall-back scenario for pre-result “celebrations” if Police act anything like The Times is acting.
I share these views too – for me too this would seem the most likely valid reason; nevertheless, one never knows what is this Taliban really cooking.
No. Unless the system has changed, the way votes are opened and taken out of boxes has nothing to with when or how they were placed and who voted first or last.
Perhaps somebody from Elcom could confirm either way.
This reasoning sounds quite plausible given that for 3 consecutive elections, the Labour Party told their flock of sheep to go and vote early and then proceeded to go out celebrating too early as well – because of the favourable samples.
And when the official results came out, they all had to scurry back home.

“This reasoning sounds quite plausible given that for 3 consecutive elections, the Labour Party told their flock of sheep to go and vote early and then proceeded to go out celebrating too early as well – because of the favourable samples.”
The skewed early samples may be favourable, but they certainly wouldn’t be representative (which is the key desirable characteristic here). The fact that Labour always got it wrong shows you just how stupid and statistically incorrect Curious’s suggestion is.
The real reason is, of course, so that the volunteer callers in each district don’t waste their time chasing decided PL voters who leave it too late. That way, the callers have all afternoon to persuade the hesitant switchers.
[Daphne – Rubbish, and you know it.]
This is a tactic used by both parties so I really don’t know why you’re making a fuss over it.
I thought it was common knowledge by now that the extra hour of voting time granted in the last election is what gave the PN their narrow victory. Does anyone think that the PN administration and volunteers on duty were playing Snake on their Nokias to kill time before they can go home?
Tsk.
I thought the extra hour was given because people were still queuing at the gates.
It was. Qeghdin Sew is a little delusional. That’s what happens when your only sources of news (I don’t count DCG’s Notebook as news per se) are One, Maltastar and L-Orizzont.
“I thought the extra hour was given because people were still queuing at the gates.”
Did I suggest otherwise? I simply said that PN made the best use of the extra hour.
“That’s what happens when your only sources of news are One, Maltastar and L-Orizzont.”
Wrong on all counts.
Rubbish, you say? Please enlighten me.
Methinks it’s got to do with the make-up and hairdo. He’ll be doing early rounds too, before the heat gets in, and the sweat does its job.
I truly hope that’s the real reason. With the Labour Party you never know what they could be up to. We who have lived the terror of the eighties know that we should leave nothing to chance, and will be doing the same thing by voting early. Passa parola!
One TV will be following events at various polling stations. There will be chants of “Taghna lkoll” and much gallivanting by Joseph Muscat and others, which may galvanise a few ex-PN voters to actually go and cast their vote for PN.
That might be a good reason why they are asking people to vote early.
However, I am under the suspicion that they have other reasons for that.
One of them could be that by a certain time in the day, they can have a rough idea of where they stand in the race.
Usually both parties have their agents on the boundary lines and by ticking “their” voters, they can tell where the vote is going in each district.
In this way, if the PL have an advantage they prepare their supporters to go out as early as late Saturday evening or early Sunday morning.
Just a hunch, I guess.
“One of them could be that by a certain time in the day, they can have a rough idea of where they stand in the race.”
A very rough idea, if 2008’s predicted landslide victory and premature celebrations are anything to go by.
Alla hu is-sewwa u is-sewwa jirbah zgur.
Wrong, they are asking for early votes so that they will have people to call to remind them that they have not yet voted.
Have a look at this article and my emphasis is on the word ICE. Apparently it is the same word used by Joey for the blokka l-bajda.

Yes, they have to vote early, preferably before the sun takes hold of the sky proper. Hence the PL vampires can vote too.
It no problem for me. I’m always one of the first at the polling station just in case something comes up during the day and I cannot vote, but mine will be a Nationalist vote.
Oh FFS, really? Dammit and I HAVE to vote early as I have an all-day rehearsal.
So now not only are people going to assume that I’m voting *choke spit* Lejber – I’m also going to have to wait. Self centred? Moi? Of course.
Quick, go and have a T-shirt printed with the words I’M NOT IN and wear it when you’re standing in the early queue.
That way nobody will confuse you with a Labourite. Good luck with the aftermath.
Good thinking Anna. Do you think a sweatshirt (it may still be too cold for a T) with the wording ‘I’M OUT’ will do the trick or will it confuse them? It may double my chances for a date too!
The tried and tested “Nivvota Labour? INz*bb*b” T-shirt should do the trick.
I’m voting early too. Then, if I drop dead, I’d have done my bit.
I think the real reason is so that they will not have to accept an extension of the voting time as happened last election.
Good point.
Could it be to keep the Nationalists away from the polling booths (mhux Alla jhares qatt jahsbuna Labour) as long as possible with the hope that some will just not bother to go all day?
I find a lot of sense in this reasoning – intimidation would be high on their list.
ur blogs are so non sense…dont u have anything else to do Daphne?
