Mamma mia, Kasco must really be turning the screws

Published: February 28, 2013 at 2:59pm

The Times hasn’t put Labour’s failure to send its deputy leaders to the student debate in the report heading or even in the opening lines of the story.

It has buried the information towards the end, en passant in a clause in the middle of a sentence that had nothing to do with it.

So let’s be charitable and think that they never learned what a news peg is. The alternative is not quite nice.

    • Simone says:

I think quite the opposite, actually. They are scared stiff of being burned to the ground again under a Labour government.

Would be good to know how much The Times owes Kasco or has it become a barter agreement. You do not pay and I do not say anything that puts PL in a bad light. Bingo

  3. Neil Dent says:

Bonnici “stepped in” for the deputy leaders. Pretty pathetic.

  4. maltawarrior says:

I wonder what Adrian Hillman has to say about The Times’s falling standards.

    • Harry Purdie says:

Had some dealings with this guy some years ago. The nicest way I can describe him is that I was amazed how many faces he has.

Have been watching Mrs. Gonzi on NET TV.

Michelle…watch and learn and eat your heart out.

  6. Manuel says:

The Times really needs a wake-up call.

    • Manuel says:

I concur. The Times was more “scandalised” with a clock received by a Minister than with other ongoings in the PL field.

Is it possible for a newspaper with such a reputation as The Times to oversee the fact that all those involved up till now in the oil-scandal are from the Labour camp? And still one can hardly find any comment on this within its columns.

I live abraod and used to open The Times website for Maltese news. Now I just open Daphne’s blog. Meno male che c’è Daphne.

  8. Leslie Darmanin says:

The reason why The Times has buried away this item is that it genuinely cannot be bothered.

The newspaper, or should we say Allied Newspapers Ltd, is still gloating over its “Big Debate” event, going as far as to use capital letters when referring to the “Big Debate”, even though this goes against its house rules.

I do not know how many news items it has tried to link to this “Big Debate”, in a pathetic attempt to try to act like they are a protagonist in this campaign, when in actual fact, despite all the pomp, it has done no better than the university students when their organised their own debate, albeit with more colour.

Of course, Allied Newspapers will think differently once Labour comes into power and the economy goes into freefall. First to go will be its advertising revenue. Then we shall see how proud they will still be of their “Big Debate”.

Big Debacle, more likely, for the lot of us.

  9. P Shaw says:

There is a vacuum / niche in the market of news media made up of people disgusted with the blatant bias and hidden agendas of the Times / Malta Today. The Malta Independent can fill this void with impartial reporting, but still there is room for improvement with this paper and the online edition.

In the US, this void was filled up by the electronic papers like Huffington Post, today has more readership that the traditional papers like the Washington Post and the New York Times.

  10. H.P. Baxxter says:

Is de Marco gearing up to oust Simon Busuttil after a massive PN defeat?

    • Harry Purdie says:

Probably. Not too visible during the campaign

    • ciccio says:

Was it only me to notice that in the past year or so The Times is dedicating more space to news items relating to tourism and the environment?

I do remember many years ago, when The Times was full of articles about the EU.

It is clear what agenda drives The Times.

  11. U Le! says:

The Times has gone to the dogs. I stopped buying the hard copy, and when I post online comments, they accept my neutral water down versions and block my more pro pn comments. Shame on who is dictating policy over at Progress Press.

  12. Augustus says:

I urge the Times readers to switch to The Independent so that they can get the true unbiased facts.

Have a look at this quote The Times chose to highlight. Il-veru qarrieqa.

  14. lorna saliba says:

This is amazing. The Times, a newspaper which was raped and ransacked by Labour supporters during the golden years has fallen prey to one of Labour’s more affluent contributors.

And Malta Today is little more than an extension of the Labour Party. Only The Malta Independent has not been hijacked.

  15. Tinnat says:

Kasco – K-Asco: Spanish shorthand for ‘how unpleasant’. How fitting.

  16. TV Marlene says:

I have been commenting about the outrageous reporting of The Times for years. Kasco is owed huge thousands by Progress Press.

The Times not only is against PN and the Prime Minister, but especially totally anti-Austin Gatt and by default, against Simon because he took the place de Marco was vying for.

Watch all the photos depicted in The Times of the PM, Austin and Simon, and then see how they feature de Marco’s pics, with a lot of photoshop work etc.

For us who remember how The Times acted before the 2008 election, it was all against PN until the very last 6 days when it somehow learned that it could well be another PN victory.

That’s when The Times changed tune because it would have been futile to challenge the leader after another PN victory, especially as Lawrence Gonzi brought that victory almost all by himself.

Perhaps another Fusellu could do the trick, but then it will be too late.

  17. oliver says:

Let us stop buying cheap and low quality newspapers.

  18. CB says:

I think The Times has become truly shocking. Their tepid and lukewarm reporting is a joke. Truly despicable. Shame!

  19. Right Said Fred says:

I just find it quite ironic that Adrian Hillman being at one point the campaign manager of Mario De Marco gave the printing tender to a company which is supporting Muscat all the way.
