FRANCE – NANTES: MAN BURNS HIMSELF TO DEATH AT JOB CENTRE

A man who was declared ineligible for unemployment benefit has died after setting himself on fire outside a job centre in western France.

Police in Nantes tried to stop the unnamed man, 43, but he managed to pass them, dousing himself in petrol and setting himself alight.

The police had been alerted by messages he sent to the media announcing his plans to kill himself publicly.

The jobless number in France recently rose to levels not seen in 12 years.

With more than three million people unemployed, the Socialist government has struggled to create new jobs in its first year in office.

Last month, a jobless man in the Spanish city of Malaga also died after setting himself alight.

On Tuesday morning, the man in Nantes sent an email, declaring his intention to burn himself, which was later published in a local newspaper, Presse-Ocean.

He said he had worked enough hours to qualify legally for benefit but had been refused.

Nearly three hours later, the man wrote again to say the centre was closed and he planned to return there with petrol, either on Wednesday or Thursday.

Police mounted a watch outside the job centre on Wednesday morning after trying unsuccessfully to contact the man, an unnamed policeman told the paper.

“But this man arrived via an adjacent street,” the policeman said. “He was already in flames and out of sight of the police.”

Rescue services were unable to save the man’s life.

The state employment agency in Paris confirmed the man had been registered at the centre in Nantes and said he had no longer been entitled to benefit.

The title of that article is so good and might be a prelude for us…

“Economic promises melt like snow in the sun”

Debt, deficits, taxes, unemployment in a few weeks, François Hollande has seen many of his promises compromised by economic conditions. After a long struggle, the government is forced to abandon its goals one by one.

Glad I am not living in Spain or France and no one in Malta is so anguished at his poverty that he is driven to commit suicide in such a horrible way.

  3. makjavel says:

Joseph needs no lessons from Hollande, but the Maltese need to see how a change for change’s sake can destroy a nation at the speed of light.

A man killed two employees in Umbria’s regional office before turning the gun on himself this week.

He was in dire financial straits following Italy’s stability pact, a mechanism which basically prohibits all regions from issuing payment for contracts carried out.

Italy’s had ca. 200 suicides last year. The latest incident may become the excuse for a new wave of internal terrorism.

Please put this up, Nothing beats facts and figures.

It is NOT the time to discuss taxes, those who think 35% is low enough better revise their economics.

Reading between the lines, what he really is saying is:

Socialist Goverments in Spain, Greece and here in France are ruining the economy, gradually undoing what was painstakingly built up by their respective Conservative parties.

There are only two countries still going strong, Germany, led by Angela Merkel, and Malta, led by Lawrence Gonzi. It isn’t a good advert for Socialism that both countries are led by Conservative Goverments. That is why it is important that Malta elects a Socialist Goverment, so that at least there will be a Socialist Goverment in one healthy economy. And if your economy goes down the toilet, well you will be in the same boat as most of your European brothers.

The socialists in Italy haven’t been able to understand after two weeks of catcalls and plain insults, that Grillo WON”T enter any pact.

The first thing they did was to rule out any coalition with Berlusconi’s centre right and Monti’s centre. How’s that for foresight?

Two weeks of procrastination with Berlusconi gaining ground in the polls, one made this week showed a 6% increase in ratings

Time just ran out for Bersani who’s proving one of the most indecisive men elected to the hot seat. He’s managed to put Italy in an incerdibly complicated situation given that Napolitano cannot maneouvre for a political solution.

If he goes on like this, Italy will face another technocrat promoted by investors, this time forced upon the country by the BCE, FMI and the EU.

Merkel may have to go back on her personal animosity and try to stitch Monti and Berlusconi.

When push comes to shove the left simply crumbles.
