“Me Shall is the love of my life”

Back to Bondi+ and the same set of questions put to Lawrence Gonzi and Joseph Muscat.

One of them was about what their wife means to them.

Gonzi’s answer came with a smile that lit up his face before he even began speaking.

He spoke of sharing years together with lots of good and bad things, experiences, children, grandchildren and hopes for years to come. And he used the first person plural: we.

Muscat’s response was disturbing. With a dead facial expression and in a stilted monotone, like a kidnap victim reciting his converson to Allah into a camera with a gun pointed to his head out of range, he said listlessly: “Michelle is the love of my life…and I hope to spend the rest of my life with her.” Quick, fleeting frown at that point.

I clocked the first person singular immediately. He’s talking of his marriage and he says ‘I’. He’s talking about his wife and he says that he hopes to spend the rest of his life with her – er, well, yes, isn’t that what it’s about? That’s what you say before you ask her to marry you.

And any man who says facilely in public that a woman is the love of his life is almost certainly putting on a show. The most famous example is Tom Cruise bouncing about on that sofa on Oprah. Men in general would rather die than say something like that in public to camera when it is what they really feel, because their most strongly felt emotions are kept strictly private.

Anyway, it was a disaster. If the Muscats don’t want this kind of scrutiny, they really should stop the pseudo lovefest. It really is getting painful to watch.

Joseph’s deputy kisses Ms Pushiness with more conviction than he himself does.

How low can you go i am sure that god is going to punish you for this (ja sahhara tal bidnija)

[Daphne – Here’s another one who was bypassed by the Age of Enlightenment.]

It’s not like she is hurling abuse at anyone, merely stating facts… read up on body language and you will see Daphne has a point

    • Ghoxrin Punt says:

Interesting choice of name. Who are you going to betray, juda?

  3. Oscar says:

No, no, no, he meant Michelle is “one” of the loves of my life. Oops!

  4. Daniel says:

Let them be Daphne. Not everyone shows affection in the same way. Why should we care about his marriage?

[Daphne – Those who put on a show should expect a critical review. Grow up, Daniel. These are not the nextdoor neighbours we’re talking about.]

Joseph Muscat even mentioned the diffikultajiet the couple went through when asked the question:

  6. L.Gatt says:

Where can I watch Bondi+ in streaming?

[Daphne – tvm.com.mt and go to ‘live’]

  7. Iced says:

All the public shows of affection he puts up with Mixa explain not his love for her, but his big insecurity.

  8. Ag says:

I watched the repeat of Bondi+ programme this morning.

It seemed to me that Muscat was scared shitless throughout the entire interview.

It was quite clear that he was uncomfortable at having to answer questions point blank without having prepared the answers.

What a contrast to the Prime Minister, who was totally in his element.

    • E.Dimech says:

You’re excluding the possibility that Gonzi’s interview was scripted while Muscat’s wasn’t.

[Daphne – Definitely not. They did not have the questions beforehand.]

      • tinnat says:

That’s a ridiculous assumption, E. Dimech. Anyone can see that Gonzi spoke from the heart whereas Muscat recited the answers as if he were in a classroom.

        Daphne, that frown was unmistakable.

      • M says:

Seriously? And fake that facial expression? I see basic psychology isn’t your strongest point Mr. Dimech.

  9. Just Jack (JJ) says:

The non-verbals show exactly the character of our leaders. Apart from the frown, you could see the difference in the use of the hands with Gonzi’s open attitude and Muscat’s clenched palms.

These non-verbals have spoken a bible of truth even with the TV’s volume closed.

  10. MARY ANN BORG says:

One could see the sharp contrast even by the way they presented themselves. While Muscat was in an office all stiff and starchy, Lawrence Gonzi was relaxed and surrounded by young people.
