Muscat: sometimes he has to tell the truth

Published: March 6, 2013 at 12:51am

Bondi+ tonight posed the same set of questions to Lawrence Gonzi and Joseph Muscat.

One of them was their reaction to the statement ‘in politics you may not always be able to tell the truth’.

Muscat: “Sometimes you have to tell the truth.” (“Le, xi drabi jew ohra jkun hemm bzonnha”.)

Gonzi: “Definitely not. You must always tell the truth, above all, in politics. This is a cardinal principle.”

He doesn't deserve to be rewarded and it would be deeply immoral to do so.

This has been bothering me for a while about the PL campaign – all this “imhabba” and “hobbuwa” and other lovey doveyness… just came across this – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFRedzh0iog

  2. Jozef says:

Glad you got that, it was, quite frankly, incredible.

Needs a video let viral on youtube.

    • Oscar says:

Agreed. Can you help put the 2 clips together D. pls? Some of us will make sure it goes viral.
      Joey’s nose keeps getting longer.

  3. H.P. Baxxter says:

So, at which point does he tell the truth?

    • Tabatha White says:

He doesn’t. Lies get so twisted that this becomes his, their and our (?) reality.

Anyone supporting this system needs to also acquire a defective memory and silence. Not everyone is made for this tangle so the system automatically sifts out those with lying stamina from the rest and only attracts similar to the core.

Of those with the necessary elements there will always be a fresh stock willing to try and knock the positioned people out. Necessary elements would include a degree in new-truthing, greed, envy, lanzit, zero values, zero conscience, laghaqi brilliance, much wasted time pandering to the vanity of the Fearless Leader, the ability to socialise and backstab as directed and required.

Divide and rule is the fertiliser of the system.

Movement (the poetry of possibility – and renegotiation: at any bottleneck) is what guarantees momentum.

Evidence, trace and the removal of this is going to be a tough one but there’s Manwel to fix things (for a commission) as Joseph moves along, IF they get in.

Perceived image will be left to Jason.

    • La Redoute says:

      When he says he’s lying.

    • Oscar says:

This idiot is a psychologist’s dream. A perfect OND case. So dangerous, we need to keep him out at all cost.

      • maria says:

To keep him out we need to all go and vote. Those disgruntled PN supporters need to forget their hurt and remember that their country needs them.

It is difficult to forget yes, but hopefully after the election is won by the PN, things will move forward.

The PM has already declared that Simon Busuttil will be the person who will listen to these people, and settle things for them.

So courage people, let us GO FOR IT.

Hope to see many of you on the Fosos, tomorrow.

  4. Gahan says:

    Ta’ l-anqas ghal-darba kien qed jghid il-verita….Jew?

  5. Anthony Briffa says:

Should we take it then, that in the majority of cases, Joseph Muscat does not tell the truth?

What an admission of dishonesty from somebody who could be the PM after Saturday.

  6. old-timer says:

Not telling the truth is normal with Joseph. Have you already forgotten the Drug/Toni Abela episode?

  7. zunzana says:

Kulltant ikollok tghid il-verita, izda meta kont taf bil-blokka tas-silg, qatt ma kien hemm bzonn li tghid il-verita.

  8. Min Jaf says:

Following the PL/FKNK agreement Joseph Muscat can now declare, hand on heart, that the PL is the new ‘senter’ party – though naturally without spelling that word out.

  9. canon says:

Why sometimes? As PM Gonzi said you always have to say the truth.

  10. Francis Saliba MD says:

“Le, xi drabi jew ohra jkun hemm bzonnha (il-verita)”(Joseph Muscat)

That need for telling the truth is always especially right NOW. The resounding truth we hear from J Muscat is that he is prone to make mistakes. Don’t we know it!

During this stressful period of an international recession, mass unemployment and violent street protests all around us, the only safe place for those who make it a habit to commit serious mistakes and who admit them when they are caught lying, is on the opposition benches where their shenanigans would cause least damage.

Many thanks for the timely warning.”

  11. Lord Lucan says:

Regarding the replies of both leaders is it conceivable that Muscat was telling the truth while Gonzi was lying?

    [Daphne – What perverted reasoning.]

    • Bellicoso says:

Hardly perverted when one considers the promises made to Air Malta and dockyard employees and the hunting lobby.

Whilst I understand that the PN is by far the better choice and that a politician must take the high-ground and answer as he did I choose not believe him in this particular instance.. I shall still do what is right and vote for him though.

More worrying is Dr. Muscat’s unguarded reply, basically admitting to the neccessity of lying. It is The Prince chapter 18 gone seriously wrong. One such comment in Brussels and we’re done for.

Reminds me of his mentor Dr. Sant’s now famous the end justifies the means comment, “I will forge a deal with the devil if it helps me attain my goals.”

  12. JD says:

First time I thought I didn’t hear him correctly. I rewound on interactive TV and that’s what he said. Utterly unbelievable.

Perhaps he can now tell us when he was telling the truth (sometimes) so we can deduce all the lies.

[Daphne – You just have to watch for that vertical furrow between his brows. When it appears, he’s struggling with the truth in an impromptu situation. When his lies are studied, it doesn’t appear and his face is instead strangely expressionless.]

  13. AG says:

Pray, how do you decide when you have to tell the truth and when you don’t?

Now we have it from the horse’s mouth.

And he had the gall to call the Prime Minister a liar.

  14. Miss O'Brien says:

He should start by telling the truth to his wife.

  15. just me says:

How can anyone vote for Joseph Muscat? By his own admission, he is a liar. He has no sense of values.

Probably all the promises he has made during the campaign are lies. L-aqwa li jirbah il-voti.

Open your eyes people before it is too late.

  16. MojoMalti says:

Here you go, Daphne, the Bondi+ video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtXOwr4I7uA

    Everyone must see this.

  17. Rumplestiltskin says:

I did not watch that particular episode of Bondi+, but for an aspiring prime minister to publicly state his belief that the truth must be told SOMETIMES would be political suicide in any right-thinking society.

However, here Muscat can get away with this. Unthinking hordes would find nothing wrong with his answer.

But how can presumably intelligent voters still think of switching after hearing such a statement.

  18. Apia says:

So Dr Muscat has admitted that we cannot trust him because he does sometimes lie.

May he please explain when and for which reasons does he lie. On what grounds does he decide that it is necessary to lie?

Does he use his discretion in the same way that he did when deciding whether to report drug-dealing to the police ?

Did he feel compelled to lie when making the various promises he has made during the electoral campaign? If so, let’s hope that at least he didn’t lie when he said that the PL would report any perpetrators of violence to the police.

I think this is the most important statement that Dr Muscat has ever made.

It has laid bare his (lack of) principles and could help many undecided voters to make up their minds.

Unfortunately it hasn’t been picked up by the other news media or by the PN yet and it may get lost.

The Malta Independent online carried a brief report about it but it is no longer among the top news items; The Times and Maltatoday didn’t report it at all but that’s not a surprise given their pro-Labour agenda.

May you please stick this valuable piece of information at the top of your website.

Yesterday during TX minn taht it-tinda, he was quoting Gandhi and when I heard him I asked myself whether there are still idiots around who take this man seriously and do not see through his artificial facade.
