Now I am watching the ugly people on Super One
Well, actually four ugly men and one pretty girl, which is about the usual mix on the progressive channel.
One of the ugly men, sexagenarian Karmenu Vella, will be our finance minister next week, so I suppose I had better pay especial attention.
I’ve lost count of the number of times they’ve said ‘roadmepp’ and ‘costidd’ and ‘roadmepp kostidd’.
Il-Guy is going on about how he is going to help businesses. Gosh, I can imagine – offering to buy in, perhaps?
It’s impossible for me to take this seriously. It’s like being sucked down Alice’s rabbit-hole into a netherworld. This is the man who was minister of industry when I was 18 back in the Golden Years, when my contemporaries were either out of work or desperately hunting for any job going on the minimum wage (and there were none).
Ah, another Labour advert has just come on, featuring the grand doorway to Palazzo Parisio (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in Valletta. My indelible association with that doorway is twofold: 1. getting the front of my car smashed in by one of Alex Sceberras Trigona’s hangers-on when I had the temerity to put my hand on the horn as he sat in his car, blocking the road and chatting to Alex’s thugs on the doorstep, and 2. being part of an environmentalists’ demo that was set upon by thugs emerging from Alex’s ministerial doorway, and being hauled to safety by post office workers (I was several months pregnant) while my friend was so badly beaten up by lengths of chain threaded through rubber piping that she spent three weeks in bed.
They’re singing ‘Let’s make a new tomorrow’ now. Yes, right, a new tomorrow made up of yesterday’s Stalinist fossils.
Bring back the people of 30 years ago and call it a new tomorrow.
I can’t stand it anymore. It’s like watching the 1980s Commies trying to make a comeback in Poland in 2013. What in God’s name are people thinking, voting to bring back Il-Guy and Leo Brincat as ministers?
I can’t even bear watching them on television – good, there’s the PN mass meeting on NET. I’ll watch that. What a relief.

You should be watching Dr. Gonzi addressing a mammoth meeting in Gozo on Net. Thank you Dr. Gonzi for your sterling work for us Gozitans. Yes, let’s us go for it!
See, this is exactly what I meant.
A vote for Labour is not a vote for change. They will win the election, they will think they’ve been vindicated, and they’ll put the same old people in the same old positions. With the same old atittudes.
If PN are elected, there will be a change in party leadership in the next five years. We’ll get a new PM and a new team. If they lose this election, the old guard will just dig in, and Lawrence Gonzi may very well still be at the helm in 2018.
Voting Labour is voting for the beatification of Lorry Sant, and his consecration as a national hero rather than the criminal he was.
Il-Guy? I’ve been away from Malta for some time. Do you mean to say he’s still in that closet?
Daphne, while I am in agreement that labour is a fossilised wreck, fronted by an arrogant leader. However, Gonzi is no shining example of good either. The nationalists got themselves into their mess because of gonzi’s incompetence. I would rather see that the nationalists learn from their mistakes and refresh the people they would put in Government. For instance I like Simon Busutill, he should be in front, not archaic Gonzi. But arrogance has Severely impacted the Nationalists’ chances of winning the Elections. Whatever happens on Saturday I really hope that the PN learns from it’s mistakes. But most likely will not because of religious and political stubbornness that plagues Maltese society.
Dr Gonzi is: A Good Economist, a Good Lawyer, A shining example as a father figure, a husband and a family man, a Good leader, a Strategist, a Visionary who put Malta where it is today after taking over from Eddie Fenech Adami.
All this makes him one of the best politicians Malta has ever had.
Anthony, if you do not understand a thing or two about politics or how the wheels of the economy turn, stay put and join Labour.
Only then will you understand a thing or two about what I mean in this comment I felt I needed posting.
Your claim of ‘Gonzi’s incompetence’ puts paid to any kind of pro-PN sentiment your strange comment was meant to project.
It’s that ‘incompetence’ that just got Malta an unprecedented, and very unexpected €1.13 million in EU funding. This is just one current, shining example from countless during this PM’s tenure.
If Dr. Gonzi is incompetent – then what the hell is Dr. Muscat? Comparable in intelligence to to a lobotomized baboon, according to your yardstick (sorry) I suppose.
I would never call being placed 2nd in the list of best places to live, a sign of incompetence.
Neither would I call low levels of unemployment and economic growth, when all our neighbours economies contracted, incompetence.
I also don’t think year on year record breaking tourist arrivals is a sign of incompetence, and neither has the capacity to weather the storm, till now, been a result of incompetence
I would not call being lauded as the fastest growing financial services centre in Europe, incompetence either.
Anthony, have you actually been living in Malta, or are you just basing your conclusions on hearsay?
sorry – €1.13 BILLION!
