Ten years of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat: that’s what he’s planning on

Like his fake switcher Ramona Frendo, he’s come some way in the make-over stakes. This interview was recorded in May 2008, during the Labour leadership campaign.

Now there’s the real Joseph Muscat. Truly disgusting. Make no mistake: he is Mintoff’s number one fan, and always was.
I would love to know the true cost of the Mintoffian “vizjoni” that got Joey all giddy in that 2008 interview, the “holma” which apparently runs through his mind like a movie in the shower.
It’s impossible to quantify the loss to Malta caused by all the brain drain, forgone investment opportunities, and shattered families that Muscat’s idol left in his wake. But why doesn’t this government, in its dying days, release a comprehensive statement of every Lira and every Euro that Malta has had to pay by way of compensation for all the outragious violations of human rights, civil rights and property rights perpetrated by Mintoff and his henchmen in those dark days.
How about throwing in a reasonable estimate of the aggregate amount of compensation that has yet to be paid, on account of the many, many court cases that are still outstanding from the days when Dom Mintoff, Lorry Sant and Patrick Holland reigned supreme?
I despair at the insanity of my fellow Maltese, that they would even dream of bringing those mothballed, dessicated old fossils of Mintoffian scum back for another go at the helm.
He contradicts himself very easily, our Joseph.
He said that people would have labelled a leader as insane if they were told that they will soon be a republic, will have a national airline etc. in 1971.
But then this came to be true because of Mintoff and because there was a ‘poplu li holom’.
I had not listened to this interview – but the hunch that il-ginger would somehow wish to imitate his great mentor, old Dom, to hang on to power by hook or by crook for as long as he dare, has been gnawing at me for quite some time now.
Unfortunately, PN has failed to highlight this repeat possibility.
Alla jilliberana.
But there is no way that this incompetent spoilt brat can win a second election. Malta will be in the pits in five years’ time and the electorate will be begging the Nationalists to take over again.
It’s all about him. He’s not even looking his interview directly in the eye; he’s constantly looking at the camera instead.
Ill-mannered, self-centred brat.
Many take it for granted that progress and time are directly related. Put in simpler terms: as years go by the world progresses to the better. But an accurate and critical look at the world history proves otherwise.
If we look at the Dark Ages, for instance, we quickly come to the conclusion that progress does not always follow a linear trajectory. In fact Wikipedia defines this period as “the concept of a period of intellectual darkness and economic regression that occurred in Europe following the collapse of the Western Roman Empire.” The same conclusion is reached after studying the history of primary schooling in Malta. The late 19th century, was characterised by the language question (il-kwistjoni tal-lingwa). Many argue that during this period, instead of moving in a steady linear trajectory, progress in primary schooling was moving in circles, mainly due to the continuous changing of the type of Maltese alphabet taught at school. Similarly a study of the history of Mediterranean countries, especially the MENA (Middle-East and North Africa) region, reveals the negative effect on their progress the colonisation process and the Cold War have had.
Looking into the economic history, we also encounter periods of progressing in circles if not even regression. Every recession, in fact, leads to regression. The present recession, for instance, has not only stopped the extraordinary economic boom of Ireland, but has also led to “a dramatic reversal from 2008, with GDP contracting by 14% and unemployment levels rising to 14% by 2010” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_Tiger). And what was once considered as the Celtic Tiger, is now being dubbed as the Celtic Cat.
Looking closer to home, at the South EU region, we are all fully aware of the dire state the inhabitants of Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Cyprus are in. The case of Italy is exceptionally insightful in this regard, as the short spell of Monti as PM had started to put the country in the road of recovery, but last weekend’s election result has reversed all the progress that had been made with so much sacrifice.
Even a study of our recent history proves the main argument driving this post – that progress does not always follow a linear trajectory. Alfred Sant’s premiership is definetly a case in point. He may have done a handful of positive reforms, mainly in his party, but economically few dispute the fact that his was a complete disaster.
The conclusion is obvious and pretty straightforward. We must not take it for granted that Malta will continue in its positive economic progress irrespective of who is at the helm. Gonzi, and his government, especially Minister Fenech, can be rightly criticised for many misdoings, but their economic insight and control is definitely one of their main attributes.
Of course, Muscat and his team could prove to be as good or even better. However, apart from many buzz words and the worrying pledge for a smaller government, till today we have little hard evidence on which to base a clear opinion on how he plans to steer our economy in this turbulent time.
This is my last post in my blog http://malteserblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/progress-and-time-directly-proportional.html
Thanks, Daphne for allowing me to post the link to my blog.
An interesting and intelligent post, I also read the posts connected with your blog/link. I like them. Thanks.
Thank you for the appreciation. I’m glad you found it interesting.
Have you heard that Michelle is doing home visits in the second district?
Michelle Muscat herself has said that she has been doing home visits for years. (In one interview, she said that she has been doing them for five years, and in another, ten years.)
WELL KATE ……..BUSH WAS DOING THAT LAST ELECTION WASNT SHE????
Why is he looking straight at the camera and not addressing his interviewer? Apart from being outright rude, he looks more like a faith healer trying to save us. Fat chance.
I watched Norman Lowell’s last speech on YouTube which took place about three months ago. Malta Taghna Lkoll was his idea.
He also advised the Labour Party that though the polls were in their favour the Nationalists will still win the election unless the immigrants subject is discussed.
The thick peasant tie knot he wore then has been reduced to a more acceptable width.
Baxxter should have noticed that first.
Yes I did.
On another, deadlier subject, foresight over hindsight also applies to us voters. When we set out to do anything this important, we should think ahead. We should think ahead to what Malta will look like in 2018 under Labour or under PN.
Without going into the economic scenarios, we should visualise the three major events leading up to 2018.
The 50th anniversary of independence in 2014. Now that means the 50th birthday of the nation-state of Malta. Which will be led by a man who more than anything else did everything to rewrite history. There will be, alas, more tributes to Mintoff, and big grins all round from some of the worst scum ever to tread upon Malta’s fair soil.
Valletta 2018, European Capital of Culture, will be planned and celebrated by the party that did everything possible to destroy the very idea of culture (and of Europe). Like the Cultural Revolution in China, it turned sophistication into something that was somehow anti-Maltese, and raised hamallagni to a national virtue.
It turned Malta into a pariah not just politically, but culturally. Labour’s idea of culture is il-Karnival, Wardakanta and Sibtijiet Flimkien.
They spurned Europe and turned the ship of state southwards to North Africa. And now they will be showcasing our capital to the continent which gave the light of civilisation to the world. It will be a stab in the heart of everyone who is truly passionate about European culture.
Finally, Malta’s presidency of the EU. Oh tragic irony of history, which seems to deride us mortals! The head of government, and therefore the president of this magnificent creation we call the European Union, will be none other than the chief propagandist of the anti-European crusade.
Joseph Muscat’s smirk, and his prancing about with Europe’s finest statesmen, will remind many of us of the dark days prior to 2003, when our future hung in the balance. Assuming, of course, that Malta will not have left the European Union by then. Because with a cabinet made up of Mintoffian anti-Europeans, led by Joseph Made in Brussel, the nightmare may well come true.
Voters need foresight just as much, if not more, than politicians. After all, we choose our leaders. We may hope that they have more good sense than us, but after 9th March, it will be too late.
MAYBE BETTER THAN GONZ HE CANT EVEN SPEAK A WORD OF GOOD ENGLISH MY GOD …PM TA………
MLP morons are so for ever.
