Watching Gonzi at mass meeting in Gozo, on NET

Published: March 5, 2013 at 10:55pm

He’s really going for it. Such a fantastic person compared to that painted, skull-stitched empty vessel, motivated by rabid ambition and a ferociously pushy woman.

And not a teleprompter in sight.

He’s in amazing form: Remember that vote is not for your permit, the job you wanted and didn’t get, the person you don’t like. It’s for your son, your daughter, your mother, your life, your country and your work. Five seconds of revenge in a dark moment in the polling-booth can ruin five years of your life.

If it’s on speaking from the heart alone, Joseph Muscat can never even hope to compete.

Basically, the above appeared on the PN’s Facebook page. People are being urged to go on http://www.mychoice.pn after voting, and pressing the “Jiena ivvutajt PN” button.

The elves will be out in full force.

  3. edgar says:

Definitely one of his best today in Gozo. He was on fire.

  4. TV Marlene says:

Formidable is almost an understatement. Go Lawrence, go!

And here’s Gonzi at Fortizza after Sunday’s meeting in Sliema

What an energetic speech, and this after nine full weeks of campaigning.

Five seconds to shape our future for the next five years.

Just picked that up, friend. A time delay in Verbier. Yes, as a commie kicks the bucket in South America, another raises his ugly head on a serene little rock in the middle of the Med.

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

These nasty Mintoff types seem to flourish in Latin America. And in Malta. I tried finding a common link. The climate? Nah. The history? Not really. The fiesta atmos? You Scots love to party too, so it doesn’t explain it.

It must be the pig-ignorance and the jingoism.

  7. Alex says:

It is already game over Daph for the PN, the people have already decided.

JM will be our PM from Monday.

  8. Ghoxrin Punt says:

So proud to be Nationalist. So proud to have Gonzi as my leader.

  9. Natalie Mallett says:

Best speeches so far by both Dr. Simon Busuttil and Dr. Lawrence Gonzi in this campaign. All the energy flowing from these two whereas the young hopeful leader Joseph.com was not capable of participating in TVHemm.

  10. Rachel says:

Daph, I’m tagging this onto here, but it’s the news that Chavez is dead. This first video draws some interesting parallels between this dictator and our socialist wannabes.

Il-veru kaz ta’ ghidli ma min taghmila.

There is also another video which shows Chavez as wanting to be the youngest leader (following his military coup) and then spreading his socialist ideals in the name of a new style of “democracy”, thereby destroying the economy as a result – notwithstanding the oil that they have. This documentary might be on the BBC site.

  11. Dott Abjad says:

Just when you think it’s all gone quiet, he pulls off one of his best performances that endears you to him, to his work, to his cause and to his party in a big big way.

Lawrence Gonzi stands for all that is right in the Maltese way of thinking and acting, the altruistic streak that we all possess but that few of us are able to muster for too long!

The man is simply a phenomenon, not simply in his discourse but in his mannerisms, his inspiration and his honesty.

He is down to earth and is one of the few politicians the world over who is, at face value.

His charismatic persona comes out when he articulates the many actions he has undertaken to secure the nation’s well-being in the face of adversity.

He is still very much the man of the moment and he is ever more relevant today than ever before.

Lawrence Gonzi, you are the man who has, by-way of your leadership and difficult decisions, shaped and transformed our insignificant island into a nation of achievers and achievements! You are the inspiration that I am and will always be!

So many unfortunate parallels with what Joseph hopes to achieve.

  13. ken il malti says:

    Great speech Dr. Gonzi !

He cuts to the chase and tells it like it is.

He is a worthy successor to Dr. Giorgio Borg Olivier as great communicator.

  14. Jozef says:

So, are we willing to give up this man? He’s convinced, it’s what drives him.

Unlike someone who can’t even memorise content and meaning.

One damp squib who’ll have to keep abreast of a country used to the other’s rythm. Yeah right.

  15. matt says:

He is extremely articulate and speaks with conviction. I am really proud to have Dr. Gonzi as my Prime Minister. He turned Malta into truly a modern state in the EU.

I sincerely hope the public opinion polls are wrong. Malta needs this man at this point in our history.

  16. Oscar says:

Such an impassioned speech. Probably his best ever. I cannot believe we’re voting him out.

  17. Maria Xriha says:

Has Martin Ellul, PL candidate, son of Guze Ellul Mercer been asked to back up the Labour campaign against the promise of permits for his land in Siggiewi?

  18. Patrik says:

I can’t yet vote, but the choice for me would have been simple. I have no qualms about saying I have many grudges with the Nationalists and how they have run the country. Their mistakes have been numerous and their performance not always up to par.

That said, all those mistakes have been for the little things in life. Things that, while affecting me personally at times, isn’t a great detriment to the nation as a whole.

On the questions that really matter their performance have been top notch – budget decisions, joining the European Union, negotiating bigger and better deals from the same Union, the nurturing of foreign investments, the assistance to start-up companies, the improvement in education. The list goes on and on.

“Voting for change” could perhaps improve some of the things that affect me directly. Perhaps the bus service would be better. Maybe Mepa would be less corrupt. Possibly a couple of corrupt politicians would finally get their just servings. Potentially even the courts and the justice system would be improved.

I doubt these things, but they could be true.

But in the end I have a four-year-old daughter and an eight-week-old son. Securing their future is everything to me. The Nationalists have proven, time after time, that they can make life better for them. As a father, my choice would be simple.

    If only I could vote…

  19. Agatha says:

I was on stage yesterday and I was amazed by the energy he had upon seeing the crowd.

Watching him closely I can say he spoke from the heart, with facts not bubbles of hot air.

Unfortunately, my 18th birthday is on the 9th March so I can’t vote, but I know who is best for the position of prime minister and surely it is not Joseph Muscat.

Those of you who DO have a vote, PLEASE make the right choice for those of us who don’t.

  20. Pink says:

I watched the mass meeting from home, and I must admit that Dr Gonzi brought me to tears. His passion and love for Malta is indescribable and I cannot understand why people hate him and believe Muscat.

They don’t appreciate everything or even anything that Dr Gonzi and the PN have done for every Maltese person.

His speech brought me to tears because I know that the people who will elect Labour to government do not know what is coming for us in the future.

  21. Ag says:

    Absolutely inspiring and encouraging.

I could not attend any of the mass meetings this time round, and yesterday’s live transmission partially filled the void.

Both the Prime Minister’s and Simon Busuttil’s speeches came across as based on true convictions, genuine proposals and from an energetic team ready to overcome all the challenges that will present themselves in the next 5 years. Let’s go for it.

  22. erika says:

Is it true that Franco Debono is going to address tomorrow’s Labour mass meeting?
