Michael Briguglio to step down as AD chairman.

Published: April 1, 2013 at 7:37pm

So Michael Briguglio is stepping down as AD chairman. Four years were enough. I can’t say I blame him. He will continue to represent AD as a local councillor.

I imagine he will eventually make the move to Labour, if staying out of politics altogether isn’t too tempting.

  3. Malta Taghna Biss - PL says:

Briguglio’s mission has now been accomplished and he has no raison d’etre anymore. The party for which he voted in 2008 is now in government, and the party he wanted out of government is in opposition.

He is not going to stay there to criticise the government of the left, of which he feels part.

Does he still think that the minimum wage should be increased, or does he now believe that it should be frozen (save the COLA adjustments)?

  4. Dott Abjad says:

Michael Briguglio is a very nice guy. He is affable, pleasant and righteous. However he is not a politician. His cause is just, however, he has chosen the wrong vehicle to attempt at achieving his aims.

It’s not about being too nice, or not aggressive enough when confronting the heavy weights in political debates. It’s that AD have poked at various issues without being thorough. They hardly ever speak about the economy and when they discuss an issue, critiquing and proposing, they only look at certain aspects of the issue.

They have spread themselves too thin but haven’t gotten deep enough into any of the subjects they discuss. They scratch the surface but don’t inspire enough confidence to own their convictions. They used to be the champions of Green issues but they seem to have abandoned their battle cry to touch on other issues which they pick and choose almost at random.

AD should seriously consider becoming a pressure group. They would be infinitely more effective. Or they should champion Green issues wholehartedly, thus becoming an identifiable group gaining more credibility. Or, they should get their act together and reform in order to provide an all encompassing critique of all issues affecting our society, including Malta’s economy with a vision that inspires and allures.

The Greens woule be a big fucking joke, were they not dangerous.

What exactly do they stand for? Jot down the list, and you’ll find they fit right into the radical pacifist Left, the most dangerous kind of Left.

The only reason they don’t call themselves the Communist-Marxist Alliance or some such is marketing. They know they’ll attract more votes if they market themselves as something different.

Disgusting petit bourgeois destroyers of European civilisation is what they are. Give me the Soviets any time. At least they knew their place.

They’re currently being courted by Lowell. Just fancy that. Because, says he, animal rights were a Right wing idea long before they were the Greens’.

      • Dott Abjad says:

Baxx, you’re completeley correct about everything you wrote, The Green Parties are like that, and Briguglio is a radical thinker, his band is even called ‘Norm Rejection’.

But I don’t see how a party can not simply, as I said, ‘champion Green issues’, by which I really meant, environmental issues.

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

Years ago, when I was young, I used to champion environmental issues too.

But after decades of Green Politics, where exactly are we? I gave up the day I realised it’s all about numbers – the number of people on this planet to be precise.

Now no matter which way we try to turn it, the nub of the problem remains this: there are far more inhabitants on this planet than it can support.

Why is China the world’s major polluter? Because it is the world’s most populated country.

Why does Malta have a problem with the water table? Because there are far more people per square kilometre than the island can support.

Until the Greens, and those liars over at the United Nations, start talking about overpopulation, they’re simply wasting everyone’s time.

A Maltese Green Party should champion one cause and one cause only: to reduce the Maltese population. By encouraging emigration, by sterilisation, or by culling. The latter two options are obviously out of the question. The first isn’t.

About as radical as a Che t shirt. He’s a grown up adolescent still rebelling against the alleged status quo.

    • Ghoxrin Punt says:

Dott Abjad, it is too late for AD to go back to being a pressure group. They lost the one person who actually spoke Green like he believed it.

All they have had over the last decade are a bunch of losers who try to play with the big boys but fail miserably purley because they are amateurs and incompetent ones to boot.

Their colour clearly came out in these elections and guess what it ain’t Green.

    • Jozef says:

The Green movement is solely responsible for the worst chapter in the history of technological evolution known to mankind.

They subdued science into a dogma, enforcing an impossible ideology onto research, wasted decades on ridiculous ‘ecological’ experiments, bio-fuels, wind energy, afforestation disasters, ‘conservation’ blunders and finally, and this is what makes them, to me, insufferable, distorted the meaning of style.

Mallia, one of their fabled evergreens, thinks Malta Drydocks should return.

Other websites say they are ‘partners’.

    Is she JPO’s ex?

    Thank you.

[Daphne – Marlene Farrugia was married to Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando. They have three children together. They are now divorced. On their divorce, she reverted to her maiden name – Farrugia. Coincidentally, this is also the surname of the man for whom she left Jeffrey – Godfrey Farrugia. Godfrey Farrugia was/is also married (to somebody other than Marlene) with children. We do not know whether he is divorced because nobody has thought to ask. Godfrey and Marlene are not married.]

Michael Briguglio is on record on TVHemm that in general election before last, he voted Labour. Not many crumbs left over for him to pick up now, should he go over to Labour. The insiders have already licked the plate clean.

“I am proud to have reached the goals that I set when I became chairperson in 2009..”

    Now, what would that be?

  9. Ghoxrin Punt says:

What a complete waste of time and space.

I hope that all those Nationalists who think it fashionable to vote AD and who spew out green crap like it’s gospel are enjoying ride they have been taken for.

  10. jojo says:

Mhux hekk? The squeaky clean Briguglio wants a slice of the Labour pie.

  11. Manuel says:

It was just a matter of time. Mikey is in. He will eventually join the PL.

Remember how happy he was when Varist suggested a national threshold so that AD can have a seat in Parliament? He is so naive that he did not realise that Varist proposed this because he and his party has a comfy majority in Parliament. He would not have suggested the threshold if the PL had only a one-seat majority. Ovvja.

Besides, what Bartolo suggested, and the way he suggested it, was only to cover his hate and repulsion towards the PN. Having AD in Parliament is a means, by Varist’s standards, to get back at the PN.

Michael is so pro-PL that he did not read between the lines. He now believes that the only way to have a seat in Parliament is to join the PL – his natural home.

  12. H.P. Baxxter says:

As pro bono consultant to the Labour administration, here is the “Action to be taken”.

Briguglio is a professional in the field of sociology, with a solid experience in environmental lobbying. The government should appoint him to the upcoming reorganised MEPA, MCESD, or a Commission for Social Equality (does it exist? If not, set it up pronto!).

He should be given an executive post. Perhaps CEO.

This will be a PR coup for Labour, which will be seen to be opening itself to outsiders (Briguglio comes from AD, not Labour), to be concerned about Green issues, and to rewarding professional merit.

This should result in an immediate rise in approval ratings.

    Will that do?
