    Monologues are great aren’t they, with no opportunity for anyone to ask if Freddie Micallef and his influence ever helped young Jason along into his job at Xandir Malta in the old days.

    A working family background usually means no connections and no letters of recommendation to make it on TV without any qualifications. But what the heck, people’s gullibility is now a matter of public record.

    It’s of no significance, I suppose, that the traditional working-class family background that Micallef boasts about here included a Labour cabinet minister for years: his father’s brother (the late) Freddie Micallef.

    And as for the new role, well he does have experience in (agri)culture! There you see, meritocracy at last.
