Three euros a week keeps the scum away

I’m glad timesofmalta.com has decided to start charging a weekly subscription fee. That should keep the Labour scum away from its comments-board.
There is, of course, a way around this for Labour’s army of hideous (and hideously subliterate) trolls: the party can use its river of funds to pay their subscription fees.
Bets are on that they’ll do it, and the rest of us will have to continue enduring the depressing spectacle of debilitating stupidity and spite, all of it ill-spelt, on parade.

With the number of comments posted, I’m sure people like Eddy Privitera would cost the PL a fortune.
Eddy can circumvent the system by sending more letters to the editor. Three euros a week buys a lot of Viagra.
The Times of Malta should discard every comment made in Maltese or any other language except English. It is a Maltese newspaper, it is printed in Malta and owned by a Maltese company, however it is first and foremost an English-language newspaper.
The Times of Malta should also discard any comment containing “LOL”, “get a life”, a long sequence of exclamation or interrogation marks and long phrases in upper case.
All these abominations are resorted to by a gaggle of mentally challenged correspondents who do not contribute anything to intelligent argument because they lack the ability to think logically.
hear! hear! been saying this for years.
I thought the subsciption fee is for readers accessing the site from outside Malta only. Does it apply to Maltese IPs as well?
Agreed!
I thought that only users browsing the ToM site from overseas would have to pay. Am I correct?
As a former reader of the Times, I do not care whether Allied Newspapers start charging a fee or not. I am afraid that they will drive the scum comments to other newspapers, which so far, were spared the nonsense.
The Malta Independent is already being gradually invaded by the erratic Eddy Privitera. His kids should take him out and get him a life, rather than keeping him locked inside.
I think the Times completely missed the plot. They should not charge us plebs 3 euros per week (I will not pay it, and they can put their web site up there and round the corner – yes, I am an qammiel and proud of it), but charge for each inane comment that is posted.
Following this week’s disgusting comments published online, it’s the least they could do.
No official apology from the editor to the families of the perished as yet.
It’s absolutely incredible how this newspaper has aligned itself to the lowest pervasive level amplifying the bile.
Whereabouts was this decision made public ? Can someone please send me the link. Well, if you look at it from another angle it could be another means of making money for the newspaper.
If I am not mistaken, the link below explains that the only thing different will be that those who pay can have an e-newspaper and can access the archives but those who do not pay can still visit the site and comments
http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20130512/local/to-pay-or-not-to-pay.469262
It says “For €2.99 per week, premium quality will include the e-paper, a full digital version of the printed newspaper, the historical archives that date back to the newspaper’s inception in 1935, a tablet and smartphone version for better functionality and blogs. The subscription will also give people browsing the site from overseas full access to timesofmalta.com.”
Meaning that the blogs will be available to those who pay Euro 2.99 per week.
I have got many better uses for my Euro 2.99 per week.
I stopped bothering to read the Times, except sometimes when you post a link to an article. They can go have a bath. I’ve long resented their arrogance. They stopped publishing my comments after the recent elections – seems they only want brainless remarks pouring praise on the freeloaders.
I too will be refusing to pay any subscription fee to the Times of Malta. Their journalistic standards and tolerance towards inane comments on their comments boards (or blokks as people call them) is absolutely terrible.
I can put €156 per annum to much better use than to paying for their pitiful service.
No love lost.
‘Premium content’? What part of The Times is of premium content, pray tell?
Maybe a few blogs here and there.
U ija, biex tara min miet.
Perhaps the worst consequence of the Times’ decision is that the scum will now migrate to previously-sane fora.
Ironically, have a look at these three vegetables.

You can still comment on an article even if you can only see the first few lines, so comments will now be based on people only reading part of an article (which is probably no different to now in many cases)
